I wasn't really sure where to post this, I hadn't really seen many injury posts before. I also wanted to make sure the post was actually seen and got good advice, so I figured it would get more input in this sub-forum.

Around the 2nd week of December, I began feeling a strange and some-what awkward pang just below my ankle or at the top of the foot, seemingly in-between the two. I've dealt with other injuries before where I just felt some pains every now and them, but was able to run through them, and figured this wouldn't be any different. I kept running, and was running PRs, so I figured it wasn't anything to pay attention to. However, at a meet on the 6th-7th, it become too much to ignore. I ran one race on the 6th, and my ankle didn't give me much trouble. It seemed running hard around the track counter-clockwise (regularly) bothered it the most, but felt fine going clockwise (backwards) around the track. The next day, warming up for my first event, it began to bother me. After running the race, it was pretty sore, but still nothing concerning. Warming up for my 2nd race of the day, something felt a little different. It felt less fluid running on it, and was giving me some serious problems. As I came to the finish of my race, I could tell something was definitely wrong. After crossing the line, I slowed down, and the pain felt like a really badly rolled ankle. I took the next 10 days off of running, only walking. The pain began to subside walking around during that period. I eased back into running, and ran a half-effort mile, still managing to run a solid time without much effort. My ankle didn't appear to have been bothered any more by racing than by regular jogging, but I was definitely still in some pain. A few days later, I attempted a hard workout, as a sort of test-run for my ankle. I felt very awkward, my stride felt choppy, and my ankle was back at a high pain level. After experiencing a lot of pain walking around school the next day, I was put on crutches for the next week to hopefully help heal. Tonight, my first time walking around off of crutches, it didn't seem to have progressed a whole lot. I understand it's a little early to tell, but I was curious to see if anyone had any input on what the problem might be. I've been to numerous doctors, and none really considered a stress fracture. The best guess was a pinched ligament in the ankle. The only thing I can compare the feeling I get when I take a step on that leg to is if you ever have your knee or elbow lock up for a second when you put some pressure on it, that sharp little pain you get right before it pops is similar to this. However, my ankle doesn't lock up at all or pop much for the most part, so it's not the same thing. If anybody has any guesses or advice, please help me. If you need any more information about it or better descriptions, I'd be glad to add on more if it could help. Thank you very much to anyone who takes the time to respond.

Doing some strengthening exercises for your ankles would undoubtedly be a good idea. Try writing the alphabet (drawing the letters in the air with your toes while keeping the knees/ lower leg in a fixed position) and slow ankle circles focusing on full range of motion for starters.

Okay, the tissue in between your foot and leg. On the outside? Sharp pain?

It sounds like a connective tissue issue. If it's on the outside, the way you described it makes me think that it is centered around the Talus. Even if it's not, if you get an Ankle Distraction from a PT or a Chiropractor, it may subside after another week or so. Sounds like it from what you said.

Good luck.

Whichever mod moved this thread to the distance forum might want to take a look at the OP's PRs... clearly not a distance runner (not much of a sprinter either, but that's beside the point). In any case, there is no reason why an injury thread belongs in the distance forum more than in the general T&F forum... sprinters can get injured too, ya know.

Thank you for the advice! And my PRs on here aren't serious, just making fun of the people who use their PRs on forums like this as if it makes their words somehow more important than others. I'm really a mid-distance runner though. And runner223499... I hope you enjoyed your water the other day. I put a dirty sock in it.
