I'm seriously considering making a trip to Miami for the Ultra Music Fest next year. I was traveling to and back from the U.S. soccer game (3 hour drive for me), and I was listening to the live feed the entire time. No way I can miss that many outstanding artists. I better start saving now.

That's the first time I've put "Troll" in a mix, but then again, I've only had the song for a little over a month, now. Every song in that mix was songs that I have just recently gotten and have never mixed before. I was not familiar enough with them to make quality mixes, and it showed. On a very similar note, I'm going to an establishment to see if I can play there at some point over the next couple of months. The owner said I could last year, but it kind of fizzled. I have a different angle I'm going to try this time. I'm trying to open the eyes to the folks around here that listen to both kinds: Country AND Western. :rolleyes:



EDIT: (Update) I got the gig. Playing June 20th. Woohoo! His only question was, do you think anyone will listen to it? All he needed to hear was that I would spread the word and could dig up at least 10 people to come to it. To that, he said, "well in that case, let's do it":) I've done lot's of parties, and have done weddings. With both I'm not doing straight EDM. I'll throw a few songs in here and there, but never 2-3 hours straight of EDM. So this will be my first time to A) Perform publicly, and B) to put myself in a situation where I can get booed off the stage LOL!

Sadly enough, I don't have an ounce of musical talent in my body. I dropped a load of money about 20 years ago, and attempted to produce, and it was awful. I made one song on garage band, it was ok, and I would assume that modern technology makes producing much easier, but I just don't have the time to dedicate to producing good tunes. As far as mixing, I taught myself how to do that around the same time (20 years ago) and that is not something I have to practice day in and day out. It's like riding a bike, I guess. I learned on turntables. The software now pretty much does it all for you (WHICH I DON'T DO), but mixing mp3's is a bit easier than vinyl.

More good news! AND it is XC relevant!

The Brooks Twilight Classic (incredible XC meet run under the lights) has requested my services playing EDM while the runners make their 350 meter stadium finish. Where was this kind of innovated thinking when I was a XC runner!?!?

This should be good.






The finish is in a soccer stadium (so it's all grass) and there is usually well over 1000 in the stands alone, plus all the other people scattered around finishing loop. So it's not that hard to get fired up for the finish. That being said, it looks like the proper motivational music needs to be in play. Any ideas? I'll try to post a list of some of the songs I may play, but any input is appreciated.

Well, we had a two hour rain delay, my equipment got soaked, but the show continued anyway. I lost count of how many runners came up to me asking what this song was, or that song... It was great to see. I even had a coach (I guess) who was from Africa, ask me for a CD. I think I'll just record a set and put it on soundcloud.

Funny side note: When he asked me for a CD, I was getting things started back up (after the storm) and was playing some dubstep that the college crowd was into. He said, "can you go back to trance?" I said, "gladly!" and proceeded to play W&W - "Based on a True Story". It was well received.

It was rocking for the ensuing hour. The word is getting out on my gig at the end of the month too. I'm hoping for 100+ people.

Sad to see that Above and Beyond didn't move up at all, but at least we have a solid pickup in Markus Schulz. I think they favored the house genre way too heavily this time around. Besides, in EDM it's all about the electro genres as of late, and certainly this year there will be a lot more of electro. Sad to see one of my favorite producers only at 51 though..

I gotta agree with you there. He's definitely over-hyped. However, he's one of the big popular guys out there, so that gives him some advantage against less-known (and probably better) producers and whatnot. Still he's pretty good.

thanks man! yeah theyre pretty pricey, there are some smaller more affordable though because a lot of producers have to be able to produce while touring without bringing a bunch of heavy equipment with them. when you start producing using software theres plugins for pretty much every instrument so that you can play the sounds in a track without actually having the instrument but nothing beats the real thing though mind you :p .as far as real solid instruments all ive got is one electric guitar and a couple acoustic ones but i have no idea how to play :( . haha i figured id pull them out just because. picture without kenyan singlets 1/5, with 5/5 lol

Actually, what you have is plenty to work with. If you have beat box to work with, that will help with the build ups as far as the beat goes. Stretching out your transitions is another way. Hold the synths longer and or repeat them in the transitions, as well.

I'll try to load up a song I made over a decade ago, when GarageBand first came out. It was basic, but I did it on a plane ride, so heh:)


EDIT: I loaded it up. It's pretty basic and it may help fuse your song #3 (the song I was referring to originally) with song #2 which sounds very similar. You will see what I'm talking about.

Meh, garage band has a ton of pre recorded stuff. I merely looped it/mixed it all together. I did not come up with any of the synths, beats, or baselines. I was just messing around. I really have no musical gift at all. Thus the reason why I just mix.:o
