Uhh so yeah... I feel like every year Armory Track stoops to a new low in their xc coverage. This is honestly embarrassing if this is what they are calling their official preview for the 2010 season.

They didn't even account for the class changes that tullyrunners reported on months ago

I can't speak for Tim necessarily and not sure why he didn't make the classification changes BEFORE publishing this, but... just saying...
It's not necessarily an official preview, it is just is what it is. You should take it for what it's worth. It says in the article in bold+red:
"These are not meant to be rankings. They are just meant to give you an idea of teams general strength."

well I understand that^ but they are disregarding anything that is not 5000 meters. for example, all the times at the SPAC course in the Saratoga State Park are nonexistant because it's 3.05 miles

theyre taking these 5k times as if they were all run on a track.. Not everyone on this site ran their 5k at the same site...

If you understand the application, the 5000m times are the SB's regardless of the course run. Yes, odd courses (ex. 5050m) ar enot included and as Tim Fulton pointed out, these are not ratings, but rather one tool to look at returners. No need to bash
I just think that if we used the average speed rating of the returning runners (that way we can account for track times as well) then it would provide more exact results. I understand what was trying to be done here, and I appreciate the fact that he took the time to set up his predictions, but there are so many other courses that aren't exactly 5000m, and even if it is 5000m, each course has a different degree of difficulty, which is where speed ratings prove more satisfying than just times, IMO.
long story short: I'm just going to wait for the tullyrunner predicitons.

All you have to do is read the lead sentence to the listings:
These are not meant to be rankings. They are just meant to give you an idea of teams general strength.
Look I understand that you are trying to stick up for him, and I'm not personally trying to bash him. I just believe that there were a lot more resources available to make a solid assessment of NYS Boys XC teams than what was used, which is the main reason why no one seems to approve of this "idea of teams general strength"

The problem is they do a pretty lousy of job of even doing that.

Yeah, that's no big deal. Trainor and Danaher lived in Shen's district for years before "transfering" out of CBA-Albany.
That preview is so wrong, on so many levels... I'm still laughing about it. Queensbury, with exactly 0 returning guys sub-9:55 (and only 2 sub-10:10) for 3200m is the second-best team in the State? Hahaha... somebody who'd never seen a NY XC meet could spend 10 minutes on the TullyRunners site and come up with a MUCH better preview.
