hah so these are a joke, right?

No, those are completely serious. How does returning 2 runners from your top 5 in 2A not make you a top team contender out of all 3 classes?

greatfuture2come
08-12-2010, 06:57 PM
Because Beecher is actually 1A. They blew the state title last year, got 3rd two points behind first place, but a runner got DQ'd so they got 6th

I was being sarcastic. Either way you need 5 guys on your team which this guy didn't take into account when doing rankings, most notably by having Maine South and Edwardsville up there.

these are seriously a joke. I actually don't mind the first two choices at all, yorks easy to put up there and belvidere north could arguably be the best team in the state this year. but after that, its terrible. i mean, a class a team? idc how good beecher is, theyll be lucky to have 5 under 16, maybe 2 under 15 at best. Thats standard for a good 3a team

These are rediculous lol. I don't think this guy did any research at all.

Ya... they even spelled "beacher" wrong..... it's supossed to be Beecher. And they are 1A. Have 5 runner's under 16. And probably 2 under 15. So not too shabby, but I don't think that would warrant a 6th place overall.

Dyestat doesn't even have one. Bad idea for going over to ESPN. The forums are dead also, cobwebs and dust all over the place.

The biggest joke is Normal at #3 and Edwardsville at #4. They have absolutely nothing after their first two runners and the top teams from their sectional return many guys who are better at the 3-4-5 positions....in fact O'Fallon could possibly be a top ten team.

From what I am aware, they have a few national quality teams. They always feel cheated in the rankings because they say how hilly their courses are compared to us in Illinois, but imo it is very difficult to rank teams nationally. Just wait for some post state races to settle it. I'm surprised that Texas and California don't have a lot of posts. They are strong in cross country.

When building the top ten teams in the state of Illinois for Cross Country we use a different system then most.

- We rank teams based on what we think they will do at the state meet, not how well they perform in Dual meets.

- throw out all the classes. For sports like swimming, track & field, and cross country this is very easy. Everyone competing is on a level playing field.

- We then take the top performances and score them as if it were a real meet.

Based on the performances from last year's state meet (taking out the Seniors), these are the top teams for the pre-season rankings. Big team or small, Chicago-land area or South of Kankakee, it doesn't matter in these sports. You perform with a top time, we believe you deserve the right to be ranked in the top 10.

Check out the segment we did on last year's state track meet. The teams who won in the big classes, don't always do well if you put everyone in the same pool.

Eric:

How would you justify Oak Park River Forest being ranked behind, say Edwardsville, let alone not ranked at all? A simple glance tells you E-ville is terribly weak at the critical 3-4-5 positions, which will result in a ton of points. Virtually every top 10 team in AAA had all their runners under 16:00 and for the top 5 teams...15:44.....that gives you some perspective.

OPRF returnees:

Malachy Schrobilgen Oak Park (O.P.-River Forest) So 14:56
Jack Stapleton Oak Park (O.P.-River Forest) Jr 15:48
Sam Fourman Oak Park (O.P.-River Forest) Jr 15:49
Nicholas Reyes Oak Park (O.P.-River Forest) So 15:54
Peter Hogenson Oak Park (O.P.-River Forest) Jr 16:14

Edwardsville returnees:

Garrett Sweatt Edwardsville (H.S.) So 14:49
Daniel Mazar Edwardsville (H.S.) Jr 15:31
Chad Maxwell Edwardsville (H.S.) Fr 16:32
Austin Abegg Edwardsville (H.S.) So 16:51
Caden Cramsey Edwardsville (H.S.) So 18:15

Dyestat will always do stuff like this where they say the preview will be the week of the 16th. This gives them more time to slack and not worry about meeting a specific deadline while also getting many more page views as people will be going on Dyestat all week trying to see if the preview is up. I would not expect it on the first day of the deadline period.

This isn't track. 3A is significantly better all around than 2A in XC save a couple of teams. I base it off how they will do at the state meet also and I've never come up with garbage like that
