Congrats to Madison West and Marquette on making the jump to the national rankings after their performances at Griak. Madison West jumped to #21 and Marquette sneaked in at #50. The Neenah girls team also sneaked into the rankings at #50.

Interesting to see after Madison West turns in another great performance where everyone but 1 PR at Adidas, they get dropped from #21 to #30 in the rankings. Marquette also falls from #50 and off the rankings. It'd have been nice to see an addition of a couple teams rather then the opposite. It just means that as much as it was for Wisconsin CC to get some positive national attention from the Griak performances, there still is a ways to go. Hope it makes these teams hungry for potential post season races at NXN.

I am going to tell you something, Mr. Madison West. You and the rest of the Regent boys are one of the best cross country teams our state has ever had.
(Due credit to La Follette of 07 and West of 08)
Your team proved that at the Marquette Invitational, the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota and at the Adidas Invitational last weekend.
Marquette, Arrowhead and Milwaukee King have also been omitted from Watchout's "prestigious" rankings.

Thanks, Zen. I believe that all three of those teams could be on the National rankings. Arrowhead especially. I'll stop commenting now until the season's over, but I just want people to know that Watchout is a nice guy who dedicates a good amount of time towards CC that is just a little biased. That's alright, though. I hope that all of our teams can show up at NXN HL this year and prove his rankings wrong.

Is Mad West planning on racing there? Are there restrictions for WI schools anymore?

After an email exchange with the WIAA this summer, it's my understanding that an athlete would have to have exhausted their eligibility in their sport to take part in a "national championship" event. Meaning that only seniors would be allowed to participate. However, the door was slightly left open by a comment that intimated it would be in school's best interest to work with the WIAA if such an opportunity arose.
It was a very vague response.

It now looks as if Wisconsin can send a Team; I mean a Club to NXN Regional. They will need to follow these guidelines:
May not be a High School team. Re-name the team.
Coach may not be involved at all: practices, meets, organizing, etc.
School may not issue school uniforms.
School may not provide transportation, entry fee, meal money, etc.
Team may not have more than 4 members that will potentially be on the school team next season. A possible line-up that would be acceptable would be 3 seniors, 3 juniors, and 1 sophomore. The more seniors the better.
Keep in mind the amateur status regulations regarding prizes, gifts, etc.
"Since Nike now has a regional qualifying meet and anyone can enter, the issue of a team being “chosen” based on their performance at the State meet has been eliminated. Additionally, the WIAA interpretation is that seniors, since they have completed their eligibility no longer are considered a part of next year’s team".
It is a good start for Wisconsin.

Realtalk realtalk, how bout you and your life partner BIG GUY go somewhere alone together and discuss your supreme hatred of logical statements by high school runners, where did he talk up his team??? he gave more recognition to other teams than his, sounds like you two shouldnt be making anymore comments unless you two are going to be productive, there must have been a couple months before you started coming on here and degrading every athlete again. Stop making stupid comments or get off of here, im pretty sure im not the only one sick of your crap.

Plus, how often do you get to live through being on a fantastic high school cross country team. Usually only once or twice. Nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments, especially when you're ranked in the nation. Let the guy enjoy it while he can.

Gala woods is actually a hilly course.
I believe it. Those are both very quality boys programs.
Are there going to be more Wisconsin teams at HL NXN then in previous years past?

wow, if that is a hilly course that is pretty good! how much faster is that course than Griak?
Gala woods is a bit faster then griak, but the gala woods race wasn't run at 100% effort. The guy that won Gala (Thorson) with good competition would be running any where from 15:28 to low 15:30's. So, Gala results don't really help if your looking to compare teams like Mad West to Wayzata, and other good MN programs.

Just saw this, which is pretty cool:
Boys FAB 50 - Oct. 21
35. Madison West (37 last week)
46. Arrowhead (NR)
Still 3 Minn. teams (Edina, Wayzata, and Eden Prairie) between them #'s 38-40, so hopefully Wisco. can get their top teams to NXN Regionals to show the nation how strong our teams are this year.
http://raceberryjam.com/2010/section6aaboys.html Wayzata wins sections, Edina 2nd, and EP qualifies it's top 3 runners for state. Same course as the one they ran conference at.
