BTC will be there I believe.
This is a great experience and a great way to end the season for teams that have had some success nad raced well in the championship season. I don't think it's just for teams that think they have a shot at the brass ring of getting the trip to Portland for NXN. Young teams that have a shot at that in the future benifit from the competition as well as teams that want to cap off a great year and test themselves against the best. We've had both experiences and think we've enjoyed it each time. I know I'm looking forward to a great day along the Hudson in November.

There is something for everyone at NXN/NE/NY....there are special awards for the top 10 Frosh and the Top 10 Sophs from all the races, open and championship. The pasta dinner Friday night at the Holiday Inn is not to be missed and they won't run out of pasta this year.... promise! We are working on a very special NIKE athlete to be our guest speaker ( a New Englander! ).
The opportunity to race against the best in the
Championship race or athletes of equal ability in the Open race is a chance not to be missed.... remember that NYS is a separate region.... to watch FM and Saratoga go at it could be epic...Special NIKE gift to all competitors. Top 5 individuals not on qualifying teams get to go to NXN besides the teams!!
The NE Championship races, boys and girls, are wide open.... no clear favorites...anybody's ball game.... get on the plane to PDX!!
As someone just posted, what a way to reward a season and what a great way to start planning for XC 2011!

Please, pardon my ignorance, but I am curious about the rules regarding coaches. It is my understanding that head coaches are somehow not permitted to "coach" the athletes competing. Please, could someone elaborate further on these rules? I have never fully understood this policy.

Rules are dependent on state association rules. It has nothing to do with NXN. Many state associations do not permit out of season coaching. Associations deem season to be while treams are competing in meets sanctioned by their state association which NXN falls beyond.
On another note - most recent espn / rise rankings as of 11/11
Boys Northeast Rankings
1. Christian Brothers NJ (1) - 1st Shore Conference NJ
2. Pembroke MA (2) - 1st Patriot League MA
3. Bishop Hendricken RI (9) - RI All-State Champion

5. Manchester Central NH (BT) - NH MOC Champion
6. Lowell MA (10) - 1st Merrimack Valley MA
7. Westfield NJ (8) - 1st North-2 Group 4 NJ
8. Southern Regional NJ (BT) - 1st South Group 4 NJ
9. North Allegheny PA (6) - PA 3A State Champion

Ahh, I see. Would, or perhaps someone else be so kind as to share the rules of Massachusetts? You have my thanks, friend.

Mass XC coaches are not supposed to be "coaching" their athletes outside the actual season. That means no NXN, technically.

As someone who has not coached their team when they've gone to NXN I can tell you there is no need to "suppose" or "technically". It's one week that includes the Thanksgiving holiday. The kids can handle it themselves and parents can help with the trip. If the high school athletes want to compete they can be mature enough and responsible enough to take care of themselves. It's really no big deal. I in fact think it's a good experience for them to have to do it theemselves. I myself think I get in the way half the time anyway.

Massachusetts teams represented well at NXN NE.
For Girls:
5. 189 Rocks XC (20:01.9 100:09.5) (Bishop Feehan)
8. 234 Mercury TC (20:18.8 101:33.6) (Lincoln-Sudbury)
9. 238 H-W XC Club (20:20.7 101:43.2) (Hamilton-Wenham)
11. 269 Holden SheWolves (20:28.4 102:21.6) (Wachusett)
14. 330 Weymouth Youth TC (20:46.8 103:53.6) (Weymouth)
20. 474 The A team (21:36.7 108:03.3) (Andover)
6 4 Viviana Hanley SR Rocks XC 18:53.1
Good individual race from Hanley, and all the feehan girls (again). Also a good rebound from the Lincoln-Sudbury girls who I heard got a surprising fourth at the state meet. These are all mostly young teams who could do significant damage down the line.
For Boys:
2. 149 Titans TC (16:45.2 83:46.0) (Pembroke)
16. 382 Brookline TC (17:24.1 87:00.1) (Brookline)
17. 426 Lowell XC Club-MA (17:29.5 87:27.1) (Lowell)
19. 436 The A team (17:32.7 87:43.3) (Andover)
Looked like Brookline and Lowell had rough days. A big congratulations to the Pembroke boys who have had a phenomenal season and should enjoy their hard earned trip to Oregon
4 2 Steven Sollowin SR Weymouth Youth TC 16:03.9
Also congratulations to this individual from Weymouth who based on last weeks result stepped it up big time for this race.
The fields in the northeast are getting remarkably tougher year after year with 31 boys teams in the championship race this year, and 22 in the girls.
Congratulations to all MA teams who competed. See you next year!

Because nobody's mentioned it yet, David Melly of NS also ran a great race, taking 17th overall and 4th for MA:
17 David Melly SR Norton Team Endurance 16:33.5 8:09 8:25
Kathy O'Keefe was also (I think) the 4th finisher for MA:
22 Katherine O'Keefe SR Newton Centre Athletics 19:27.9 9:41 9:47

Also notable were
8 Marissa Shoji SR UNA-MA-Newtown 19:02.1
and
13 Andrea Keklak SR Mercury TC 19:18.9
Andrea was battling sickness yesterday, which might account for her performance (though it was still a strong one by almost any standerd). I'm told Shoji runs for the girls' private school Nobles; I don't know much about her otherwise.
