I am a 200/400 runner, and the other day did the following workout: 5x600 with 90 sec rest between each. I did each 600 in 1:50-1:55. I wasn't really stuggling or tightening up, just smoothly running. For reference I have a PR in the 400 of 48.66, am a junior in college, and my sophomore year of high school I ran a 2:04 split.
So my question for you is what do you think I can run in the 800?

1:53ish? Our team did a similar workout recently (6x600 w/ 2 min rest) and our guy who ran 1:59 in the 800 did them in about 1:52. He also only has ~53 sec 400 speed.

For a speed-based guy running 5x600, 1:53 is probably a big over-estimate.
Even if you ran them all in 1:50, that's still only 73's per 600, which TBH shows you need to work on your endurance quite a bit.
I would say around 2:00. You have the speed down (obviously), but the endurance is what you're lacking.
FWIW, when we do 6x600 w/ 90s rest as our staple workout of the week in track, I usually am holding 1:39's, putting in a solid effort but nothing too terrible, and that was when I was in probably ~1:54/5 shape (didnt run the 8 last year, 15 only).

I'd put you at at least a 1:55.
55/60 splits.

I have heard many theories about what a converted 400 runner can run in the 800. Normally the runner can add 1.02-1.06 to his best 400 (Open 400). And that is roughly what you could do in a 800. Of course this is by no means fool proof. So that means you might be able to run anywhere from 1.50-1.54, assuming you were to focus in on the 800.

Go to a track. Run an 800 meter trial. You won't be more than 5 seconds off your trial time.
That workout really isn't a predictor workout, I believe its an AT workout for 400/800 types. You'd be better off running an all out 600 or so and predicting off that. Being a sprinter type, I'd add on 34 to get your 800. It may not be a perfect prediction but I'm confident that it'd be close.
I know you're just curious but I don't see how it matters right now? Its not even indoors yet and hopefully you'll be faster in indoors/outdoors than you are currently. You do have a lot of potential so long as you're not just massive, 48 sec. speed would allow for a 1:44 800m. Now you may not be able to get there but speed won't be the limiting factor.

Converting is hard, as Ive seen some sprinters do it...
With that kind of 400 speed, you'll definitely do well, just work up your endurance/mileage...I would say ~1:58

I ran a 1:29.0 on a semi-windy day in my friends flats because I forgot mine - outdoors on a 400m track. -- I'm normally a 3k steepler/miler, but we need another leg for our 4x8
*That was my 4th day back after a week off after xc and i was sore but I ran my PR through the 400m (55/56)
Who thinks its feasible I can go sub-2 on a 200m banked track indoors (NYC Armory) by January? That's going to be my goal. If not what do you think I can get?

2:02 for you. I think you should be able to run at least a 1:25 before you break 2.

I think as long as you can run 1:28 and you have strength/endure u should be able to sub 2:00. My pb 800 is 1:58; and my 600 pb is 1:26

Yes but aren't you a distance runner?
I think sprinter--> 800m usually means less endurance than distance --> 800m. On my team, the guys that have gone sub-2 were distance guys that ran down. All were ~1:26-1:28. One of our sprinters could run 1:27 but only got down to about 2:05

Are you referring to the OP? He ran a 2:04 split 4-5 years ago when he was presumably not in 48 second 400 shape. I'd be shocked if he could only knock two seconds off of that time. Then again who knows. My frosh year a dude ran 1:57 and he had a 50.0 400PR, but my senior year a teammate ran 1:56 and while he split 53.x a few times in 4x4s I'm pretty sure he never broke 54 in an open.

that was to the kid who ran a 1:29 in flats.
anyone who runs a 52 or faster should be able to break 2. i wish i had that footspeed =[

oh god not this "if you can sprint fast you can be good at endurance" debate again

Well, I am a 400 runner whose PR is a 54.1, and i ran my first 800 ever the other day in 2:11.8. I came off the XC season, and decided to try it. And I'm only a HS sophmore, so thats why my times are so slow
