Is anyone running in this? I thought I might go down and watch. I know some HS kids from Tosa ran in the last one. (1600 and 3000)

The 3k did have some very fast college runners tonight. Winner was 8:30ish I would guess.

Ummm... those are regional, sectional, and state results.

People get all jacked up for this meaningless meet so that was my way of saying who cares. Every year a group of kids run it post some mediocre times and everyone oooooohs and ahhhhhs. Watch out for so-and-so this year. It's only January...

For the experienced HS runner, this is a waste of a season debut. For the collegians and post collegians this is a waste of focus and effort.

The HSers want to feel fresh and be hungry when they get to March. More importantly, they want to be ready for late May/June because that's what matters most. What this does is open up your season earlier than it should. My belief is that the season debut for a runner should be powerful and the onset of a powerful season. Not saying it can't be done here but I will say it'd be better somewhere else if you're a college/post-college athlete and better at later date if you're an experienced HS runner.

Theres the results. Wissports sure has changed. It's tough to find much of anything on there now. That 8:28 is pretty impressive though by Scott Mueller.

I don't know about you but I am really looking forward to the 400 (http://www.wissports.net/honorroll.asp?pageID=1&dupe=0&sportID=15&type=99&year=2011&event=3&div=8&regionID=0)m (http://www.wissports.net/honorroll.asp?pageID=1&dupe=0&sportID=15&type=99&year=2011&event=3&div=8&regionID=0) this year.

On a more serious note, wissports is what people wanted. We're all going to have to learn to live with it, right?

Double post.

I'd say Scott ran well. I'd be interested to see how he stacks up against the UW boys. For someone who has run 14:06/29:xx ... I personally think he's got an 8:15 or lower in him.

I agree with you zen that we have to live with wissports; it's all we have. They do a good job of getting the shear amount of data together and run a good website.

those 400 times are quite humorous though. it's sure gonna be a race between darius king (-6.26 sec) in first and Shannon Parker 2:26 in last.

Listen, the interface itself has some appeal to it. But when it comes to producing a successful track & field site, you need someone meticulous and experienced running the show. They don't have that. Moreover, the site will only be as good as the data it provides. Look no further than the 400m link I left above.

My issues with wissports.net:
the severely damaged all-time lists. Who even knows what's accurate anymore?;
the lack of scrutiny with hand-timed sprint performances from dual meets;
the scope (i.e. 18-20 events, 50+ conferences, 3 divisions, boys & girls) which not only keeps increasing in size but also cannot be fulfilled using their current methods;
their lack of overall knowledge when it comes to running.The Wissports clan could manually enter data--all day, everyday--until they are blue in the face, Chad Gunderson could take journalism classes at Harvard, and Nicholas Kartos could hone his programming skills but even then they wouldn't have the capacity to be a great track & field site.

Mark Rongstad had that capacity. Dave Figi has that capacity. A few others do too but I get the feeling common sense is holding them back and/or drawing them toward other interests.

I agree completely! Wissports has butchered their job (well, that MIGHT be an over-statement, but not much). Even if it's ish of okay, when you compare it with wisconsintrackandfield.com, you see just how many backward steps have taken. There's all sorts of mumbo-jumbo about how WISTCA voted to not include post-season times on the HR in the pst few years (hence no 1:49.99 800m by Perkins). That is total BS, as you can see that Heck and Paulson's 9:00 and 9:01 MWDG 3200 times are on there (Just one example). Here is just ONE of the many discussions about the problems of wissports Track and Field coverage on their forum: http://www.wissports.net/Playground/tm.aspx?m=1082526.

I also don't like how the all-time lists only go through 20 individuals. There are many things that have hope, like the conference and sectional HR's, but the potential has not been realized, and wissports lost a great guy in Zen. Look at what he's done with wisconsinxc.com (http://www.wisconsinxc.com) - on his own, on two separate occasions! And then wisconsintrackonline.com is also superb! If only they would suck up their pride and admit that they've done the sport wrong, and allow for a re-rendering of the T&F portion of the site.

Sorry about the rant... I had to blow off some steam.

Zen's already addressed this in another thread. It's just not possible. We just gotta live with wissports and be glad for that.

Believe me, we all wish! I remember wi-tf.com (I think that's what the address was). That was also Zen's handy work. Was amazing!

If only track were as big as football or basketball... then the money would probably come. Truly invaluable!

No one has mentioned Josh Huberlus's 6.73 60m. I believe this to be his new PR. Since there isn't a good 60m to 100m conversion, I believe it to be somewhere in the ball park of mid to upper 10.3x's. He continues to improve post collegiately. It'll be interesting to see what he can put down if he stays healthy and competes thru outdoor in the 100/200m.

Yeah I noticed that too. Dude's so fast! And yes, that's .05 PR. Here's a list of his accomplishments and PRs: http://gletc.com/08.php. I especially like his 20.97w! Wonder what this year will bring!
