Has anyone gotten frostnip from too much icing before? How long did it take for the swelling and other symptoms to go away completely? I have been icing to extreme measures since I got an achilles injury at the beginning of November. I've been filling up a small trash bucket with lots of ice and cold water and soaking my foot. Lower foot has been red/purplish, swollen, and tingling. We went to the ER on Sunday because we were convinced it was a blood clot because blood clots run in my family. After doing a bunch of tests, showed that I have NO blood clot. The doctor had no idea what it was causing this at first but then I told him about my icing regimen I have been doing rigorously. He said that he almost guarantees it's because of that. Since Sunday, I have been applying this vaseline lotion (http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=3898815&thread=3898815#) to my skin, not icing, and haven't had any redness come up. My lower leg is still puffed up but with no redness or tingling stuff like before.

yeah i got somne solid frostnip, i lost feeling in my foot and also my hip/glute and tingling persisted for a day or two. It never turned purple but both were quite red.

I usually did bouts of 15-45 min with a PEAS icepack or a bag of ice.

Extreme measures? like how much at a time? when i ice or ice bath i have been taught to ice for 20 min max then break for 20 min and continue this cycle for however long you want, i would think doing this can help you cut down on the pain and frostbite.

that's what I would did along with icing numerous other times during the day. i think my "ice baths" were just way too cold. i was putting a lot of ice and cold water in there
