View Full Version : Core Workouts
I was looking over the lifting thread, and decided to post a new thread, instead of hijack that one. So what does everyone do for their core workouts? I bet everyone's will be pretty different. I know some people keep it simple with just crunches, but I like to mix it up. In one core workout i might do all of the following, or just pick some: plank, bicycle, crossover crunches, russian twists, supermans, reverse crunches. some times I'll mix in leg lifts or v-sits or some other things. Do you do the same core workout all season, reps-wise just to stay in conditioning, or do you keep upping the intensity throughout the season?

We do a lot of planks and core stability stuff. We'll also do lots of weighted core work with medicine balls and kettlebells (everyone should do kettlebell work, it's super effective!)

for abs specifically i usually do standard crunches, elbow to opposite knee crunches (whatever you want to call those) medicine ball sit-ups, and medicine ball pike rollouts

You gotta keep in mind that your core is not only your abdominal. Your core also includes you hipflexors, upper groin abductors, and upper hamstrings. The one we do the most is you plank your body on two stepping boards making sure that only your shoulders are touching the top stepping board and your heels are touching the other. While planking face up, a partner will throw a med ball at you while you catch it above your head. When you catch it throw it back as fast as your can back at your partner. This exercise gets all components of a true "core" workout. We do 3x15.
