Our rep came by the store today.
I can confirm the LunarElite is out and the Zoom Elite 4 is back (though we already knew this). I saw the Elites on Lauren Anderson of Nike at this weekend's Music City Distance Carnival while she was cooling down, too. We'd already seen pictures on Bumbalough's Twitter of the shoes though.
The main colors of royal blue for the men will be continued through SP12 also. The Lunaracer 1 doesn't update except for colors. The mens is royal blue with orange swoosh, the womens is bright pink. Such a hot shoe. I wish I wore the right size so I could just wear the ladies'.
The Rivals all look seriously legit. I'm shocked. I'd actually wear the Rival D. It's almost a flat more than a spike...with a spike plate included. Looks good too.
Any specific questions I can answer. No pics, sorry. And, ladies: your SP12 gear is INSANE.

Props for starting this thread W!
HRTW: If Nike follows true to form, the Vic2 and Aerofly etc will come out after the Games, so they won`t show up in the catalogues until mid-2012.
Last time they did release the Vent2 and Maxcat2 at the beginning of the year, so there might be something new coming...but I expect just colour updates for the Mamba or something...

oh yeah i forgot about that, but if nike completely changed their marketing strategy it could be quite good for them, give the spikes to the pro's at indoors and early outdoors, release them just before the games and watch the money roll in with all the coverage they'd be getting...
and i'll be looking at you to provide those pics that you get from catalogues, months beefore anyone else gets them ;)

No updates to any of the racing shoes except the colorways (and even those are limited...most of those we've seen in the Holiday 11 catalogs) and the Rivals all got pretty good updates--I think those are all new. But the high end stuff stay the same EXCEPT the Mambas which got a huge upper update. Our rep didn't have a Mamba with him though so I can't say I held it, only listened to what he told us about it. The new Mamba is white based with Ethio (red/green/yellow) stripes and has more of a nylon upper he said. It isn't an open mesh anymore, but he said it will drain just as well as an open mesh, but be more comfortable.

Also no Aeroflys yet but the Ja is (re-released?) with an upper that was described as "form-fitting, soft, and high in lockdown value." He didn't have one of those, either, but said that it's almost like a moleskin upper but will provide SUPER lockdown. And they're dropping flywire from most of the trainers or at least reducing it.

Good to see that the Zoom Elite is back. The first edition of the LunarElite stands as the worst running shoe I've ever owned. You probably won't be able to tell me this, but did they drop the heel a bit on the Zoom Elite? The heel to toe drop felt pretty severe in the Elite 4 and I'm wondering if they did anything about it.
Also, are we getting anything like the Katana Rac3r III? I know we have new Zoom Streaks and the LunarSpider, but I'm wondering if anything else is in the pipeline....
THANKS.

This is something I have suspected for a while...Flywire seems to be getting dropped from many shoes, not just on the fashion side but also performance shoes like Roger Federer`s 2012 tennis shoe (losing Lunar from that too) and the LunarSpider R2. Probably because it just plainly does not breathe!
Anyway, something else I was thinking was that maybe the Vic 2 will get an updated upper to go with the new plate? Just we have not seen it yet? I imagine it will keep some Flywire but it would be unusual to keep the old Vic upper through another 4 year cycle of Nike`s track and field range. Just a thought...

I heard the aerofly wasn't being mass produced because it simply won't last many races.

I never wore the Zoom Elite (though I have recently been wearing the LunarElite...it took me a solid month to get used to it, but I kind of like it now. I'm told that I will like the Zoom Elite a lot more) but I was told the newest one is almost identical to the Elite 4. I did notice that the heel-to-toe-drop SEEMED to be rather large (based on looks alone) in the pair that I held. I think this newest one is an exact remake of the Elite 4.
I didn't see anything like the Katanas, which is a shame--that shoe was awesome. The Spider hits stores next month though, which is something to look for.

With regards to the trainers, the issue our rep cited was that the flywire, with the overlay that is required in the mass-produced shoes, removes all pliability from the upper. He specifically referenced the LunarEclipse (which is a great, great shoe by the way. "Maximalist," sure, but it's super comfortable. I train in the Peg and LunarElite and am planning on adding the Eclipse to my rotation) where the flywire tends to cause buckling on the upper.
For now we haven't seen any uppers on promo shoes that indicate that flywire is going away, but who knows--it may be an 11th hour change. That said, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see the flywire stick around for at least one more Olympic cycle on the high-end lightweight spikes.
I think Nike simply rode the flywire train a little much...so many shoes got it that didn't need it, because they're the only ones who have it and it's noticeably different. I can't speak for others, but I personally was never a big fan of flywire on anything outside of racing shoes (for the running world), and certainly not on casual shoes! I just never saw what a few strands of flywire was going to do for my trainers...

how's the nike zoom elite compare to the structure triax? Is the elite just a lighter version of the triax?
i love the lunar elite 2. the 1 was too stiff, but once you wore it in, it was great. and the 2 was just awesome. it makes me sad that they're going away, but the zoom elites were pretty dope so it's not too bad...

Yeah, I have just seen what they are doing for the Eclipse 2 - Flywire is gone and replaced with a strap that looks similar to the Lunarglide 3. Except the strap arrangement looks to be just for aesthetics, whereas the Lunarglide 3 strap seems to have some function.

Hi Bun,
It's far more than 'just aesthetics'. With the new LG3, Eclipse2,... Nike integrated a new approach to making uppers, the strap(s) are there so the upper always 'comforms' to the shape of the foot. During the whole gait! This should eliminate 'gaps' between the upper and your foot while running, so creating a far better fit and comfort.

Hey Bram! Long-time no post!
I can fully agree with you on the LG3, because the strap passes through the upper and `saddles` the foot very effectively. But I am not convinced by the Eclipse 3! The construction looks to be much more conventional, with the strapping on the inside and just folding over the laces to form the midfoot.
Anyway, I know you are much closer to this than I am so maybe I am wrong (probably!).
Any other tidbits of info you can offer for future releases while you are here though?? Like the updates to the spikes and flats? You know you want to (and we won`t tell your boss!).

Hi Bun,
Couldn't answer to the topics for some strange reason, but so now I can. I have no new updates :-) But talking about the 'straps', the new thing is about the construction of the upper but you'll probably see/hear more about it when the LG3 comes out....

But the Zoom Elite for 2012 is not the old Elite 4. It will be a new shoe, with Zoom Air in the forefoot and a (it sounds like) a Dynamic Support-styled rearfoot. Upper is a cross between the Lunarglide 3 and the Free Run 2, with the straps and multiple overlays. Nearly 11ozs though.
Also happy to find that the Speed Lite 3 will become the LunarSpeed Lite next year too!
And the blue and yellow LunarSpider R in the video that I posted a while back will be out in October this year.

I just got the Streak XC 3 today and assumed it would be the same as the Streak XC 2 because that is what runningwarehouse said, besides the graphics being different. However the tongue is drastically different. It is made of a stiffer material. The biggest thing though is that they added a **** ton of padding on the bottom side of the tongue. What the hell? Why would they do this? My foot feels wicked cramped now, where as in the streak xc 2 it fit like a glove. I feel like taking a knife and trying to slice some of this padding off. Has anyone else noticed this???

I have a pair of the Streak XC 3's, but never had the XC 2's to compare. That being said, the tongue is very very padded, almost too much. I'm sure you could take an X-acto knife and slice the top and pull the foam out if you're that set on it.

Haha, yeah. The Streak XC 2s are my favorite shoe of all time and I'm just a little annoyed that they added a ton of padding to the tongue when the shoe was perfect. Also I can't understand why they would add padding to a racing flat to begin with, in the tongue of all places.

Maybe laces rubbing too hard through the thin tongue? If i could make a suggestion, go to runnerswarehouse, eastbay, firsttothefinish, ebay, or your local running store and just pick up as many pairs as you can, even go a half size bigger than usual so you could wear them with socks if you like the shoe that much
does anyone have the Lunarspider R TZ (camo) flats? if so can anyone elaborate on them? Weight? Comfort? Good racing flat?

Nike Rep came in today. 1/1 is the release date for the new vic and tumbo colorways. I saw the Streak 4 and Lunar Speed Lite flats and really liked what I saw. The Free Run +3 are interesting and there are also Free 3.0 V3 and 4.0 V2. The 3.0 has a heel-toe drop of 4mm, not bad. I think the Frees are really catering to minimalist runners this year instead of to the casual wearer. Not sure what to think about the switch from Lunar Elite back to Air Zoom Elite. The shoe didn't seem to be anything like either of its predecessors.
Oh, and the Purple/Orange and Volt/Blue colorways aren't just for the Vics/Tumbos. For everything!

I should have taken pics today.
Lunar Speed Lite looks like a marathon racing flat. It is fairly big while still being light. I would put it in a similar category as the old marathoner in terms of cushioning. It is much lighter though. I would put it halfway between the Lunar Spider and the Lunar Fly.
The Streak 4 I only saw pics of. The colorway is mostly white with Blue/Volt. I thought it looked great but my school colors are those. The bottoms looked similar to how the streak is now. There are changes in the upper but I couldn't tell if they were cosmetic or functional based just on the pics.
The new colorway of the Lunar Spider R2 is the same as the Streak 4 and looks a lot better than the current colorway.
I think these shoes come out 5/1/2011 but I can't remember, lots of dates were thrown around.

I agree, of all the "brighter colorways" these black ones are my favorite. Personally, black is my favorite color for spikes. You cant go wrong with black, they hide blood+dirt better than lighter colors, and darn near every color goes well with black for shoes.
In regards to the above image, i applaud nike for going to a semi classic shoe color. Yes, the flywwire is neon but it isnt heinous like the other colorways.

If it wasn't in the catalogs, probably not. These colorways were photographed last spring (2011) so Nike had time to change the colors from opposites to the same colors. It's a shame, if i was to buy new victories these would be the pair i'd get (one new pair for the track season, they tend to rip easy if i'm spiked by someone. Or a full season of workouts+races in them its just time for a new pair)
It seems like volt green/blue will be the theme for their line up this year. Bun had some pictures either in this thread or in the unreleased/promo thread of a ton of different shoes all in the volt green/blue colorway.

The volt victories and tumbos in the picture and the red one above are for the right foot. So maybe Nike decided to do away with the dual colors? I know volt / red was supposed to be one of the combos and since those pictures are for the same foot you have to think they are separate. Maybe that is why their is a delay with getting the shoes out this year.

So are the 3 new spikes on the nike store....purple+orange matumbo, red+yellow victory, blue+volt matumbo/victory....all single color?
And then the purple+orange matumbo on FTTF is dual obviously
And then the red+yellow victory on FTTF is dual as well
and then there is also the yellow+blue matumbo new colorway on FFTF that is an all single color

From what i gather: Nike originally planned the dual color idea. Probably made a few, sold them to FTTF preemptively. Then sometime after, they decided to switch to single color idea for the spikes, and made those. So FTTF has some dual color ones, and they only have them (that i know of). And nike and the other retailers will have the single color ones. Eastbay will have their exclusive colors later on in the year (which we haven't seen yet)

Can't wait to see the eastbay colors this year too.

I dont know if im the only one but I dont like the dual color idea. I really thought the black/green matumbo was the best looking colorway
Why do pro athletes and schools like Oregon get nice, smooth, normal colors, then we get this ****. I agree with you on that, I love that colorway, as well as the chile red/white ones. The blue ones from last year weren't bad, but they were a little too bright. Normal colors ftw

If you look at the Nike site both the side shot and the outsole shots are of the right shoe, which matches the color of the right shoe on FTTF. You would think Nike would tell you when you order that they are two different colors, but it is possible that those are the 2 color versions as well.

Streak XC 3s are still in the catalog. No new colors or anything though. I assume a new color or the Streak XC 4 will come out in August.
The Lunarspeed Lite isn't anything like a Lunarspider. I would compare it more to an old Marathoner except with Lunarfoam and much lighter. I got to try a pair on and they were very cushioned yet still responsive and light. I'll be getting a pair for sure! Along with Streak 4s. Oh how I love Nike putting everything in my schools colorway!

Not really digging the Celar 4 upper. I know a lot of people complained about the shoe not being breathable but I personally never had that complaint and I don't think you have sprint spikes on long enough for that to be a problem unless you wear them for a summer work out or something like that.

This is pure speculation, but it could be the victory 2. Andy Wheating and Lopez Lomong had them last outdoor season and they were in black and white. If it's limited edition that would fit the bill on one category.

I have 2 pairs that i payed well under 120 each for and i can honestly say their better that the streak xc's. The main reason for this is that after running about 100 miles in streak xcs the forefoot zoom starts to feel really weird and uneven. This never happens with the lunarspiders because there's no additional cushioning in the forefoot. They also have a bigger midfoot shank which gives them a littlle bit of pop similar to the mambas and katanas.
glacier freeze
12-18-2011, 10:37 PM
They also outlast the streaks by quite a bit. I have put about 1,500 miles on them and they still feel like new. The upper is also reinforced a lot more. Run on trails with the streaks and eventually they will rip. On the other hand, the spiders hold up well to some pretty technical trails after 7 months.

how do spiders compare to the streak xc?
spiders have a higher end cushioning foam which supposedly holds up better than the stuff in the streak XC.
the fit is a bit different so you'd have to try them on to see which one you prefer.
the spiders have a ridge of foam under the ball of your foot which i could see being good while racing, it started to hurt me after just walking around in them.
also the streak xc's are $50 cheaper.

I've said it before, but either:
1. White upper/laces/foam, black flywire/plate/swoosh
2. Black upper/laces, white flywire/plate/swoosh/foam.
You CANT go wrong with plain black and white. If they really wanted to mix it up the swoosh could be a color of your choice, They could do 5 colors like they did recently with the lunar racer line up.

Agreed. What makes Nike think that we like these colors!?!?

Probably the fact that almost everyone buys them anyway, even if they don't like the colors.

The white ones will look pretty cool even with the fruity color accents.
White spikes are always cool, no matter what. They are such a light feeling color. And very racey.

Lunarspeed+ Lite seem to be showing up now:

Look at the heel on them though  Cannot see them selling well here with that Dynamic Support in the midsole.
New colours of LunarSpider LT+2 too:

Pretty pointless and stupid really. I don't even use the heel, and I don't believe anyone should.

already have a pair of the lunarspider LT+2 in the solar red colorway (and og LT's as well) and loooove them. highly recommended

It is the Zoom Speed Cage+ 3. Latest in a long line of similarly caged-Zoom Air shoes here in Japan. I think the midsole has only changed two or three times since the old Katana Cage was out though. Upper has seen some transformations - this being one of the worst I think.

Thanks for the info. That upper looks like the Air Max 2011 upper.

Will the new Nike Zoom Elite+ be a neutral or a support trainer?

The Nike Rep told me that the Air Zoom Elite + is going to be the same as the Lunar Elite + 2 except with the Air foam instead of lunar foam. Characteristics are supposed to be the same.

Hi, it's 'filed' in the neutral silo as there's no different density on the medial side, nor dynamic support. But, the shape of the midsole + the dynamic fit upper that fits surprisingly well + a 10mm drop make that the shoe 'runs' very dynamic with a decent amount of support at the midfoot! Zoom Air is only in the forefoot for that dynamic toe off.
I ran in it for the first time and it felt very very good, no joke!

with the zoom elite entering the picture where will the lunarfly fit in? do the elites cater to those needing slight stability while the lunarflys will feel more kinvara-ish?

Abdi in what looks to be be a very Katana like shoe

Ritz in either the lunar speed lite or lunaracer 3 (I felt awful for him):

Ritz's look like the Lunarspeed Lite but I don't think Abdi's are coming out soon. I've seen everything through June and that wasn't in there.

^^Does not look anything like the LunarSpeed Lite...
Both Abdi and Ritz`s shoes have the same upper but Ritz looks to have a Lunar midsole and Abdi has a `normal` midsole (could be the Streak 4 midsole).
Edit: Lots of images over at Getty Images - looks like Trafeh was in the same shoe as Ritz. Maybe a Lunar forefoot pad only for them. Interesting outsole too, with exposed midfoot and heel.
