I'll be honest, I'm glad he didn't run at the IHSA State meet. Because if he had, there would have been no excitement about the winners of the races. He's unreal, and I'm glad for him that he had such a great end to the season

Both of these are very in-depth observations. More importantly, the Rosas. Still exhausted from their 2800m race? It's a bit different from their usual races. Why did they decide to run that weird distance and did it really affect their mile run?

He won pretty convincingly, but they ran pretty darn fast as well.

What can I say? I mean, there's much more interesting things in the realm of Illinois distance running to discuss than some kid running sub-4 in the mile.

To tell you the truth, I think part of the reason why there's not many posts on this board is because the accomplishment is just so amazing, no one really has much to say. Posters just have a lot more to say on the more controversial matters like who is most likely this year to win state individually (with Lukas gone) and who's going to win as a team (with a non-senior oriented York team this year).

When Derrick "broke" Virgins record there were probably a thousand posts about who was better. Your telling me that no one has any opinion on where this puts Lukas in the conversation of best high school runners ever? I know Lukas is viewed as somewhat of an outsider, but there was huge talk surrounding Jager and his sub 4 chances and he wasn't even close. It's a topic that's been brought up year after year for the last 10 years since Webb did it and everyone has fallen short, and now someone finally does it and no one seems to care. It's just crazy to me looking back a few years that people would be more concerned in June as to who is going to be good in XC next fall than a local kid breaking 4. Maybe it's a testament to peoples real opinion of Verzbicas.

I think people's real opinion on Verzbicas is that he's blown our minds so many times, it's just expected now. I kind of expected him to break 4 so it wasn't a huge surprise when he did. As to him being one of the best high school runners ever, how many records does he have? Outdoor 2 mile and Indoor 5k at least. Those two coupled with his sub 4 probably should put him at best ever.

I'd have to agree with most of whats been said. We just expect Lukas to wow us and he does every single time. I swear, I see more activity on facebook with everyone posting status's about Lukas then we see posts on here. I think with most of the older members moving on after the Dyestat-tracktalk switch, and most of the younger members being here, most people naturally think Lukas is the GOAT. Honestly, I'd have to agree. Looking at the elite page, there is some good debate going on but I have to say if we're going overall, Lukas is the best followed by Ryun. Just because Ryun and Lindgren were olympic level athletes in high school doesn't make them untouchable. Again, not to take away from those two either, they ran some RIDICULOUS times, especially Ryun solo. But If you look at what Lukas has done: 2 time footlocker champ (only ritz has repeated), won both footlocker and nxn in back to back weeks (never been done before, even though its relatively new, Chris Derrick couldn't do it), triple crown at indoor nationals, setting the 5k indoor natinoal record day 1 (14:06), almost breaking the 2 mile indoor record day 2 (8:40.x- debate on whether he broke it because Lindgren's indoor time was handtimed), and then coming back to win the mile the next day against a bunch of fresh, fast milers. He ran 4:03 indoors, 2nd fastest indoor mile in high school of all time, 8:29 outdoors- not only shattered GF record but thats 11 seconds faster than Lindgren, Virgin, etc ran. And he just ran 3:59, only the 2nd time a high schooler did it in a high school only race (him and Ryun) and the 5th highschooler to break 4, especially in less than perfect conditions. I can't understand how people don't realize that this resume must make him the greatest all-around of all time. Yes, Ryun and Lindgren were world class when they were around- but at the same time, that was when competition was much watered down, the world record in the 2 mile was 8:30, and college runners were basically the cream of the crop in the Olympics. On a note of character: whether or not Lukas jumped a grade because he wanted to get to college sooner or he wanted to end the debate on his records being unfair because of age, I think that in itself is an awesome testament to the type of runner he is: He may be a senior age wise, but grade-wise, he should still be a junior and have a year left. Either way, he probably has had the most successful high school career of all time.

That was pretty dang controversial, as in, whether Derrick broke the record for real or not.

Your telling me that no one has any opinion on where this puts Lukas in the conversation of best high school runners ever?

No, I'm saying that in this instance of Lukas running a sub-4, there really isn't nearly as much to debate about as with other things Illinois posters like to talk about. It's not like Lukas ran a 3:59.999. He ran a 3:59.71. Besides, what you're asking me involves a realm of discussion that goes beyond Track Talk Illinois.

I know Lukas is viewed as somewhat of an outsider, but there was huge talk surrounding Jager and his sub 4 chances and he wasn't even close.

Again, this was a case where posters really had much more to debate about. It was way more likely that Lukas was going to go sub-4 than Jager. I bet everyone agreed that Lukas had a pretty dang good shot. In Jager's case, it was more debatable how much of a chance exactly he did have at pulling the sub-4 feat.

now someone finally does it and no one seems to care. It's just crazy to me looking back a few years that people would be more concerned in June as to who is going to be good in XC next fall than a local kid breaking 4. Maybe it's a testament to peoples real opinion of Verzbicas.

Agreed. Now I'm trying to rationalize why that is. I honestly think it's because the posters around here thrive off of debate and disagreement. After one person says something that everyone agrees with (Like a congratulations to Lukas going sub-4 on the mile), then there's not really as much of an incentive to post as no one really has anything to expand on that other than just saying a similar thing to the previous poster.

I'm not saying everything about Lukas is NOT controversial and no one has an opinion on it. I'm just saying that the other things people talk about on the board are even more controversial and unestablished.

The problem is, there is a 20 page thread in the HS Elite board. Anybody that's wanted to talk about it has. In there

How can you just burst in here and pretend ur in charge here when u havent posted in the past three-four months?

Trolls have ALWAYS been a major component to the IL board, hell, Me and guys like EternalFreshman practically ran the boards back in 07' after we banished Ehof and Run2win's retirement.

Which brings me to ask: where were you back then? I dont in particular remember you challenge me or the other trolls back then...And how on earth did you get (and still have) modship of such a prestigious region in which you infrequently visit at MOST!

I don't know what world you were living in that you think you ran the boards back in '07. The Stevenson guys hijacked threads, but they weren't pests like the York posters. In case you haven't noticed I'm not the only one that's infrequently visiting this board, numbers are definitely down and it seems that the fact that for every serious post there are two from people like BarbaqueDriggs is contributing to that. I've come back to clean up the trash.

from your 4 month vacation I see. Go ahead and ban BBQ Driggs, Ive got a bone to pick with him, hes a troll with no class.

Also, I was living in IL if you wanted to know, and there is no way im gonna sit here and let those damn Stephenson kids take my credit just because you had your head up your ass during that time.

May I remind you Mr. Swoosh that the IL boards revolved around the legendary (RIP) Talbot is Ginger thread, which was the second largest IL thread in IL stat history

Swoosh you're all off, man. I don't think the lack of posts on the IL board has anything to do with peoples' opinions of Lukas one way or the other. I think it has 100x more to do with the fact that the Illinois sub-forum is pretty awful, especially in comparison to dyestat, and any worthwhile poster who wants to comment on Lukas is just going to take his/her comments to the Elite thread where they can be assured that they will get some good discussion about it.
