View Full Version : Post-season races

So the season is offically over, now we have a handful of post season races. Who is doing what?
Border Wars is november 12th
NXN Heartland Regional is November 13th
Footlocker Midwest Regional is November 26th
I know the Arrowhead boys are going to the NXN regional in hopes of qualifying as a team, they should make it! their biggest competition will be Wayzata from MN I believe.
Who could make FL nationals from WI? I think Seidel is a for sure if she doesn't get hurt. We will see with Fons, last year she was 47th...
how about the boys? If Sandvold/Diffee/Meister race they have a chance, but it will be VERY tough, especially for Russ because of NXN the week before and if his team makes it he might want to focus on that or not be as tired.
Dan Schubert was 12th last year with a 15:21, will we see someone get that low of a finish? Personally I will say no, maybe top 15 but we will see.
Dicuss.

Honestly, I think this year we have about 10 or 11 guys who have what it takes to run a 15:30 or less at Parkside. Same 10 who made the all-time lists + Meister. If you can break 16 at the Ridges and/or run in the 15:30s at Parkside in-season, you stand a chance at posting something faster when the rest of the Midwest is pushing you. Over the past few years we have consistently produced great runners and have emerged on to a new level as a state. We aren't IL, CO or IN, but we're not unheard of. We can put people in the mix and sometimes when people are in the mix crazy things can happen.
Ryan McCoy has given a verbal commitment to doing this meet, definitely one we should have our eyes on.

this.
I was too focused on D1 guys when I posted, totally forgot McCoy. He is one tough kid and he ran with guts from the very start of the race. wire to wire he won it. I think as long as he runs smart and doesnt lead the first 1000 he has a shot of being up there, I would put him ahead of all the D1 guys honestly. Last years results: http://footlockercc.com/2010/results/mwSeededBoys.htm
only 15 returnees from the top 50. bu thats not saying much as some of them may not be there and there will be plently more fast kids this year. We will have a good showing this year no matter what.

Seidel runs 17:43, Owens beats Pratt. The results of the DMP girls head to head with Madison West's top girls made me realize that DMP might have been better overall this season! Admittedly, I never realized how close the DMP girls were with West and Arrowhead at the Midwest meet.
1 Neenah 56 4 7 8 15 22 36 37
Team Time: 73:37.86
Average: 14:43.57
2 Madison West 71 1 9 17 18 26 47 50
Team Time: 73:52.78
Average: 14:46.56
3 Arrowhead 74 3 10 12 19 30 40 44
Team Time: 74:16.70
Average: 14:51.34
4 Dodgeville/Minera 75 5 11 13 14 32 84 89
Team Time: 74:31.52
Average: 14:54.30
On the guys side, IHSA AAA 33rd place finisher beats our 8th place finisher in D1 and runner-up in D2 rather handily. My hopes are that our footlocker group can put 5 under 15:40 because we're that good this year as a state. It just all depends on who runs.

Any idea why those times were so much slower? Molly ran 17:10 last year and 10 guys broke 16:20. Was the course bad?

Well hopefully Molly was just using it as a tune-up for Footlocker since she's only raced the 5k course at Parkside a few times. I also know it rained down there to so the course was probably soft.

I hope so too. I got the feeling she took it easy.

I think it is a no brainer that she just ran an easy race today.
My thoughts:
Last year she smoked the course at Border Wars when she didn't need to do it. I am not critiquing her for doing it. After all, it is fun to run fast.
This year she races at the Border War just to get a 5k in to prepare for the distance and the course. She already knows she can run fast on the course thanks to last year's Border War race. Safe to say she is thinking about a big goal for the Foot Locker race. Running a conservative race today is a great way to prepare for it.

Believe me, Mitch Wilkins(the 33rd place finisher) was definitely a top ten in Illinois all season. He had run a in the mid 14's (3 miles) and just had a bad race at State.

WOW!!!
also Molly Seidel??? according to the MN boards she raced???
I had no idea she was running nxn
she won border wars yesterday and cruised a 17:43 so does this mean that she then traveled to South Dakota the next day and took 2nd in the NXN regional to qualify for NXN nationals? if she did...WOW!!! and if so
she probably ran just to qualify.
I think she is also doing FL so she has had a pretty tough schedule but I could see her winning both!
anyone know i this is true? I did not see her name in the start lists.
Molly did NOT race today.

NXN is this upcoming Saturday so I assume the live feed link is up, I haven't looked for it yet but I'm sure it's there. FL is the following Saturday and there is still one region to be held so I wouldn't be surprised if it was not up yet.

Not sure how Neenah did yet, but they got interviewed by Solinsky after the race! he said he was proud to see Wisconsin teams out there!
the girls champ went 17:38
no rain so the course was not bad, there was still mud but nothing even close to last year. A bunch of the nike pro athletes ran the course after the boys race and said it was decivingly easy...it was firmer than everyone thought.

That 33 second 1-5 split is impressive.
Did anyone notice that if Russ were racing as well as he had been earlier against the same competition Arrowhead might have come in around 5th place? I think they were underrated all season...

I think all in all WI competed well at NXN. We have two of the top 15 teams in the United States (CA arguments withheld). I don't think we've ever had teams ranked THAT high nationally. Correct me if I am wrong!

From what I heard, Bierman and Sandvold both went down at the start and Russ was spiked.

Great races by both Molly and Allie. Way to represent Wisconsin. Such an exciting girls race. The boys race was pretty amazing as well.

WOO!!! What a cross country high school career Molly has had. Any college would be lucky to have her running for her program. Also, congrats to Allie she has a great career couple of years ahead of her.
With the success Wisconsin XC has had this year, it's exciting to see what the future holds :D
