Was checking out the Jingle Bell Run 5k Results from a week ago at the Zoo and an 11 year old girl named Samantha Deakin from Wind Lake placed 21st overall with a time of 18:18.

I did a quick google search to see if I could find any other race results from her but I had no luck

I also did a google search, found the results you mentioned above, and they are posted below.

Interesting to note the only other female who beat her was only one second ahead. How did you find out her age?

Here are the results by age group:

There was also a 9 year old boy that ran a 21:12, which is good for that age

Point of interest. The girl (or woman) who beat her does not show up in the age results. as shown by her bib number, which differs from all the rest. late entry? I don't know how the race was set up, but just thought that was intriguing.

Yeah the same thing goes for the overall winner, Scott Mueller. He's like 24 or 25 years old and doesn't show up in the Age Group results for 20-29 either.

Other than the male and female winners not showing up in the Age Group results, it seems like everyone else is in there

The men's and women's champions of local 5k's and such aren't factored into the age group standings.

I was watching that race and I am fairly certain that the two young girls that came in first and second overall (18:19 and 18:20) did not run the entire way. They were all dressed up in costumes and were giggling as they ran toward the finish. The course loops around twice and when I saw the top women around the 1 1/2 mile mark, there were no young girls dressed up that were anywhere close to the top women and then all of a sudden at the finish they were in front of the previous women's leaders. I talked with the 3rd and 4th place women and they saw no girls pass them.

If two girls that are around 11 years old could run that fast, I think someone would have heard of them before and they would show up in other results. I don't think the girls purposely ran short, but just ended up finishing before running the extra lap.

By the way, the 9 year old boy that ran 21:12 did run the entire way and looked very good. Nice stride and just seemed very comfortable running; didn't go out too hard, just ran a nice steady pace the entire way. Very impressive.

Thank you for clearing things up. At least we have one impressive young runner!

By the way, when I say dressed up in costumes, I don't mean like a Gorilla suit or something, they were just wearing Christmasy decorations. Someone still could probably run pretty fast wearing what they were wearing.

I am curious if anyone else that was there saw these girls or not. I would hate to state something that is incorrect, but I was watching the race very closely, as were the women that thought they were battling for 1st place, not third, fourth or fifth.

It would be nice to find some other race information on either girl.
