Hi, i was wondering what training shoes you all use, whether they be flats, spikes, minimalist, or standard running shoes.

I am a sprinter currently, although i also run xc. For xc i use Nike Free 3.0 v2's, and for sprinting I use a pair of Saucony Ride 3's. The reason I dont use the Free's for sprinting is because of the simple fact that they have absolutely no cushioning when you decelerate after a sprint.

I was looking at the Puma Faas series (either the 300 or the 400's), and the Saucony Kinvara 2's. Please tell me which one is better for sprinting, and what shoes you love to train in.

I sprint in Faas 400s and I absolutely love them. Definitely going to pick up another pair.

Have you tried any other types? I was looking at the 300's, and was wondering if the heel was thick enough to absorb the shock of slowing down after a sprint?

When you decelerate after a sprint, instead of actively trying to slow yourself down, try instead to just stop "sprinting". Just try to slow your leg cycle down and don't push off the ground anymore, it'll save your shins and knees.

I agree. Also, when slowing down after a sprint, try not to place your heals on the ground. that will munt your legs. Bring the bulls of your feet under your body
It would be best to train in a thin racing flat or more supportive spike. If you train in thick trainers, when it comes race day, it will be too much of a sudden change going from thick trainers to thin sprinting spikes. I think that the faas are still to thick for sprint training. A spike like nike miler would be a good training spike.

Bumped. I used to train in the Nike Free Run but last year year I got a stress fracture running in those so I need something more supportive but I tried the Nike Lunarglide 2 and it was too chunky for sprinting. Any ideas for something smaller than the Lunarglide 2?

Personally, Asics have always worked great for me. I had the Strike 2's for 4 years, but just this year I switched to the Gel Cumulus, and both have been fantastic. Obviously it also depends on your foot and how Asics fit, but I've never had shin problems or anything in these
