Not Sure How to Title This...

This probably belongs on a national thread, but I'm not a National type of guy.
From USA Today

I hope it does not mean what I think it means. DyeStat set the standard for a long time for HS XC / T&F coverage.

Yes, it is true. ESPN pulling the plug on Dyestat and all non football and basketball coverage. A number of Dyestat folks are here and in a little bit of shock (who can blame them?).

Things still might happen!

That's a real shame, but may lead to more growth here?

If not here, then LetsRun, which might be scarier...

The boards died an ugly death the second the ESPN website took over. This TT was created to fill the void (if anyone wants a trip down memory lane or just an awesome archive of all things track, talk.dyestat.com is still hosted). Certainly the NJ board here is awesome, though there will never be a spike forum as good as the original Dyestat one.

Letsrun is its own beast. There's good information there, but there's a lot more chaff on the wheat.

As far as actual HS track coverage, Milesplit all the way.

I generally agree about the data, the meet results, but from an editorial standpoint Dyestat is far superior. And Milesplit can be spotty depending on the state. We're spoiled here in NJ because Pat is so focused on getting all the results up and getting them right. Milesplit does not have webmasters in some states and while the "corporate" Milesplit people do their best to get results up for those states there is nothing like a local person to be focused on their state and know about meets that a person from another state would never be able to pick up on.

I'm well aware of the differences, I was on Dyestat and was part of the transition over to here.

Its a shame whenever a track focused media outlet goes out, but in this case, I don't think we'll be losing too much.

Yeah we lost it years ago when ESPN bought out Dyestat. Kinda makes me wonder if Mr. Dye still looks on, and/or actually lurks this website.

"Admin" here should get the old Dye guys like SteveU to come back and report
He might even be able to start up another million dollar site.
Get southjeffdistance on board too, he LOVES reporting/blogging from what I recall..

I'm from the state that one might expect would have the best Milesplit coverage - Virginia - because it's the original one. But the site is still clunky, the forums essentially nonexistent, and Brandon Miles still can't write well (in between complaining about not making enough money) to sustain interest. It's useful for results and essentially nothing else.

(New Jersey's is obviously much better, although I'm still not a fan of the site design.)

Thank you for the kind words. I see that you cannot be reached by PM. If you could contact me either by PM or email (pmontferrat@milesplit.us), I'd very much like to hear your thoughts on the layout.
I am always looking for ways to improve the product.

Pat

Odd, my inbox certainly isn't full.

I don't think I'm very useful, to be honest... certainly not one for artistic vision. Most important to me is the content, and you have that. You're also much better integrated with the national milesplit coverage than VA's.

(I do think the forums are inadequate for sustained conversation/community/whatever, but that's not what they seem to be designed for anyway - insofar as they offer a space to comment on articles or ask quick questions, they're fine.)
