Gel Swishing

So I've heard about swishing gel in your mouth and then spitting it out and I was curious if it works? What do people eat during marathons?

A pro marathoner seems to do it

haven't seen much on it though, but it seems like it might be a good option for those who suffer from GI problems when they eat anything (including gel) during a marathon. I'd be curious what others experiences are.

There was actually a study done on this that was published somewhere (forget where, sorry) that showed athletes who rinsed their mouths regularly with carbohydrates (gatorade) before running had better endurance then athletes who did not (water). So given that gels are basically a solid form of concentrated gatorade, it makes sense.
