Wisco Mile - Illinois Runners welcome!

The 4th annual running of The Wisco Mile will be taking place on Wednesday, June 8th at Wisconsin Lutheran HS in Milwaukee, WI. Each year the quality of the meet has been improved. Last year's highlight came during the Men's Elite Mile where Appleton East standout--and current Oklahoma Sooner--put away Andrew Perkins, a 1:49 half miler, with a time of 4:11.24. This is the current meet record. While HSers typically stick to the HS Elite fields, adjustments can be made. This year's Men's elite mile has the goal of going sub-4:05. The goal of the Boys HS Elite field wants to go sub-4:15 and the Girls HS Elite field wishes to go sub-5:00.

Meet conditions are typically ideal, races are run under the lights and the atmosphere is very relaxed. This meet itself doesn't necessarily rival with the Midwest Distance Gala (my favorite distance meet) though it offers a similar opportunity to go fast in ideal conditions. After exchanging a few words with the meet director, Eric Lueck, an all-time miler in Wisconsin himself, he would like to encourage the participation of Illinois runners. They had three low-4:30 types show up the first year, however, none have since. It's a great event!

Interesting proposition. It would definitely be fun to run in my town of birth though idk if my parents will let me drive up to Milwaukee. Is there a qualifying mark for the HS elite B heat?
