Here's the scoop from a fairly reliable source I'd say.

With good ole Scott W's education reforms the middle school educators at the school he taught began to pressure him and basically made his life miserable, at 58 he did not have enough years teaching for a full retirement and had the option to go teach at another school but decided not to to pursue his passion of coaching and to put all his effort in coaching. So with that he decided to retire early from teaching and a La Crosse Middle School and continue coaching.

With that he went to pursue finishing his career in coaching when UWL Administration was notified that Derek and his wife, his wife having a cherished and established role in the school, planned to move to UW-Oshkosh (If I remember right) so that Derek could be a head coach rather than an assistant. And with this the Administration pressured the athletic department to hire Stanley as the head coach which allowed for his wife to remain in the UW-La Crosse Staff. So now Fritsch is without teaching nor coaching and has unfortunately had to get a job as a cashier at Kwik Trip (Gas Station), fortunately his wife has a stable job that can support them both. I've heard this from word of mouth and basically typed up what I can recollect, but I'm fairly certain it's accurate. Either way it's been a tough patch for Fritschy.

No matter how it played out I do not feel that it needs to be shared on a running forum. Nothing is going to change with how things played out. Coach Fritsch will continue to be a strong supporter of the program as a former "Indian/Eagle". Fritsch still as a role on campus in Alumni relations which includes coordinating alumni events, home meet management for CC/Track, administrator of the upcoming NCAA outdoor National Championship Meet and and working with the Sports Information Director. I'm sure that many of the alumni will give support to Coach Stanley and the program. All I can say is if you are in alumni support the program. If you are an athlete in the program keep things in-house.

Not to be defiant or anything, I just don't understand why we shouldn't call for some type of transparency regarding the issue? If something happened that shouldn't have then it should be talked about! The forum only hits a certain die-hard sub-population of the track underworld. There's no hatred here toward Fritsch or the program itself, it's just a topic that has affected people that we know and left a lot of us--including alumni and competitors--very confused!
