Mygoodnessgracious...I'm exhausted.....THE GAMES!!! LOL!!
Ok, I have to admit..it took moi awhile to "get into" the track and field stuff.. What with GABBY..ALY..the Fierce fab five....ohmygoodness..not to forget to mention Ryan, Michael...and MISSY FRANKLIN...oh what a sweet heart...and of course Dana...and Natalie... (don't forget moi was once a swimma).. The wrestling...GOOOOO Jordan!!!! Then there's the beach volleyball...YEAH!! MISSY!! YEAH! KERRI!!!! The women's marathon team...well, they did just fine....hopefully Kara will get accustomed to working like she never worked before....she'll could do just fine next time around (that's what I think) And Desi....gosh, I was so sorry to hear about the pain she had in her hip flexor...(I've had it...and it's not a good thing to have...hurts all the time....walking, sitting...lying down trying to get up....awful just awful...Hope she takes the needed amount of time to heal and gear up for the next tiime... Now, Bolt huh? Amazing...and quite lovely.. Now to read abou the stupid stuff that is going down between him nad Caarl..just plain sad....(like where's the proof Carl?). And then the women's sprinters ganging up on jeter and then LoLo stuff.. Perhaps stuff like this goes on in all sports...but ya'know...I just didn't hear it in the other sports.... (or did I miss something?) So tomorrow is the closing...and I'll hang in for the next time. Good Luck to Ryan tomorrow...and GOD BLESS! Oh, yes, and I'm running...yYyyIiiiiPppppPPIiiiiEEeeeeeEE!!! Yes, Indeedie and no pain...did an hour everyday this week!!!! and still able to do a whole day of chores (yard work included) without icing or pain...I'm painfree...until next time!!!! 10 months of no running...and now...to my hearts content! And a side note...a woman pulled into my driveway the other day while I was making a new flower bed (I can't get myself to do veggies)..and she asked if she could take a pic of my house wiht the flowers and a pic my the door with my chairs and pots ant things.....well, turns out not only she lives on one of my walking loops, but she's an artist and wants the pictures to paint from, how cool is that?....thankfully, hubby came out to hear...(which pleased my heart to no end)...because I have designs for 3 more flower beds....lol!!!! I was flattered to say the least.... Hi Orville, I thought for sure you would be at the games.....you travel bug you!! |

Patti,
I have always been impressed by how quickly you can get back to running an hour a day with only one break a week. I wish you continued fun running. As for me and the London 2012 Olympics, I signed for the usual Track and Field Trip to London 2012 in 2005. Between then and last summer I had a deposit of $7,000.00 in my accout. The price kept rising. The tour included the frills I insist on: a single room in a three star or better Hotel and tickets to all evening sessions of Track and Field so I would see all Track and Field semi finals and finals. The prices I am quoting DO NOT Include AirFare or lunch or dinner. (All sessions included the hassle of going through security before each session although in Beijing and Berlin seniors were given a special line which flowed quickly.) Osaka 2007 cost me $4,795.00 (11 nights) Beijing 2008 cost $8,945.00 (12 nights) Berlin 2009 cost $5,425.00 (11 nights in the Berlin Hilton) As stated none of those prices included air fare. Last summer I was told that the a price was $11,795.00 for 12 nights in a 3 star hotel in London. I could still get all but $150.00 of my $7,000.00 back if I withdrew then but the withdrawal fee was about to rise. I decided it had become too expensive and cancelled. Two of my travel friends also cancelled and three did not. I went to three different reunions in Canada this summer instead. I met with friends I had from the age of 2 last week! My home town of Timmins has changed significantly since 1961. |

Patti,
I've been to 7 Olympics and 5 Track and Field World Championships. My first trip was to the Tokyo 1964 Championships as I moved from Toronto to Los Angeles to train with Coach Mihaly Igloi. Often ones best Olympics is their first. For me it was! There were about 10 friends (team mates) on the Canadian team. Security was not what it is today and by using meal tickets from wrestlers and others trying to make weight we could eat some meals in the Olympic Village with the athletes. My friend, Bill Crothers, won a silver medal behind Peter Snell in the 800. I saw some of the best races I have ever seen including Bob Hayes in the 100 and 4 x 100 Relay, Billy Mills in the 10K and Abebe Bikila in the marathon on a tough day. One of the few negatives was that the longest Woman's race was 800 meters. And looking back I now realize that it is the only Olympics in which the United States had at least one runner in the top 6 in every Men's running final. For me, it was a great Olympics! Cost was low, politics were less, there were eight days of the best in Track and Field and Tokyo was a fun City to visit. Last edited by OrvilleAtkins : 08-18-2012 at 10:36 AM. |

Hi Patti,
I have no pictures. I went to all sessions during that 1964 Olympics including the morning heats and recorded the results as they happened. I have all of the Official Programmes with my handwritten results except for periods when it was raining. Better still I have the fabulous VHS Collector's Edition of Kon Ichikawa's "Tokyo Olympiad". It is a 2 part Classic Documentary of the 1964 Olympics. Part one shows many of the track and field events including Billy Mill's run into first place. Part two shows a good portion of the marathon. I believe that "Tokyo Olympiad" is now on DVD. Last edited by OrvilleAtkins : 08-20-2012 at 09:55 AM. |
