Chris Derrick Appreciation Thread

Every board needs one. I miss the days when Derrick08 was a regular poster, but perhaps by losing his message board persona he found his current mojo.

His freshman year was great and then by sophomore track he was seriously nicked up for the first time. Then picked up some injuries as a junior, but his current fitness is outstanding and here's to hoping we see him run 27:3x at 10K this spring. His new found kick might bring home that championship he has earned through hard work and guts.

I think that Coach Vandersteen poster knows him and I know that Chubs knows his brother. So tell CD "Hell yeah" from me.

Posting in epic thread.

The 10k is his to lose if Lalang doesn't do it. And even if Lalang does it he has a good shot.

I e-mailed Steen on Sunday just to tell him that I have never seen Chris go deeper into the well and want it more than in the last 200 meters of that 3K. His eyes were on fire that last 50. It sent chills up and down my entire body. I hope he gets his title come spring. With this current form, an Olympic berth at 10K is not out of the question either.

Changing his workouts to challenge Lalang isn't going to make Chris more successful in the long run. Craig Virgin stuck to the plan and didn't let Rono's success change his own training and won the International XC champs (twice) and made the Olympic team. I fully expect Chris to stick to the plan. To go crazy trying to out train Lawi might just get Chris injured and his last major injury essentially set him back almost 2 years in training. Whatever Derrick is doing right now is working and working well enough to put him on the path to a nice contract. I applaud him for his maturity and expect to be able to follow his progress in a successful pro career.

He ran 28:56 last year, which was 10th overall in the Pac-10. Other than that he's quite inconsistent.
