Summer Track

I remember someone asking about the Midwest Distance Gala, but I can't remember what thread it was in, so I'm starting this one. Here are a list of Summer track events to be held at the new Joliet Memorial Stadium. I believe the June 8th event is the Distance Gala (Distance Festival).

USF / Memorial Stadium Summer Meets: Please Spread the word on the meets!
May 31 - June 1: IPTT Multi-Event State Championships
June 8 (night): Midwest Distance Festival (5K open to public; 800+ for HS athletes)
June 9: Senior Spotlight Competition (Open to Top Seniors from IL, WI, IA)
June 14: Thursday Night Summer Series 5pm-8:30pm (Open to all, $5 entry)
July 5: Thursday Night Summer Series 5pm-8:30pm (Open to all, $5 entry)
July 12: Thursday Night Summer Series 5pm-8:30pm (Open to all, $5 entry)
July 19: Thursday Night Summer Series 5pm-8:30pm (Open to all, $5 entry)

Thanks for the info, but I think you have the wrong link for the Thursday Night meets.

After checking out the senior spotlight meet it said to register on the itccca website but i could not find anything. So I'm assuming it's invite only like the Mideast meet.

email John Nalley if you're interested. If you qualified for state, chances are you can run, at least on a relay.

Do the Reese Park Striders still exist? I used to do their Tuesday night track meets on their mud track. It was great fun! We used to finish up with the javelin on the infield and then head to a bar for drinks. Often there'd be a softball game going on in the infield as well (finished by the time we got to the javelin) and you'd have to dodge kids on bikes during the running events. The 4x400 was put together to make the teams as even as possible, so you'd have like two high school runners, an elderly lady, a 3rd grader. It was so much fun, like "playing" track.

I wish the ITCCCA coaches all the best, but please know that the Midwest Distance Festival is in no-way affiliated with the Midwest Distance Gala. I will make another post regarding this year's Gala on another thread, but please know that any type of wording that the organizers of the Midwest Distance Festival put out about a continuation of the Gala is not true to any extent.

The Gala was built on the hard work, energy and dedication of the Gala staff. We take pride in what we built, but did not talk to any of the Midwest Distance Festivals organizers about handing over the reigns of the Gala to them or giving them the right of using the Gala name in any of their press materials.

Last Sunday, the ITCCCA (Illinois Coaches Track & Cross Country Association) decided that this meet needed to be continued.

In conjunction with the Senior All-Star Meet sponsored by the ITCCCA on June 9, the Midwest Distance Gala is now the MIDWEST DISTANCE FESTIVAL
.

These statements are frustrating. Many times over the first three years of the Gala, myself and Patrick Tomasiewicz worked to have a good relationship with those putting on the Senior Meet. I was personally threatened by two individuals about putting on the Gala and thus we have had no relationship with the ITCCCA organizers. The Gala is not NOW the Midwest Distance Festival, rather the Festival is its own event that is in no way affiliated with the past Gala events or successes. This is something ITCCCA and Dyestat Illinois are trying to use to build their event. Again, I wish these gentlemen all the best, but their use of the Gala name and history is simply not true.

I don't pretend to know the effort and time it took to get the Gala together but i think the loss of such a momentous event in Midwest track and field is something people don't want to hear and i'm sure the ITCCCA is just trying to fill the enormous pair of spikes dropped by the gala by comparing their event to the Gala and i don't think the meant to say Your gala is now their festival.
