I'm confused, Daily Herald says he wants to study civil engineering. U of I CE is #2 (after Cal-Berkley) amongst colleges. Not sure the $225,000 extra to go to MIT is worth it in the long run. Plus MIT has a real weird culture, great city though.

He wants to be an architect. Is the school expensive, sure. But it's MIT.

Depends where you look for rankings:

Also, rankings are just one thing to look at. Even if U of I technically is better academically, it doesn't have the same wow factor. Every where you go in the world ever, people will be impressed that you went to MIT for some sort of engineering.
