It is a lot easier for them to find someone to step up to be the #4 runner than other teams finding someone who will put up a single digit. At this point, that has to be a huge advantage.
Riba and Perrier may not even be the best 1-2 in the state. Milling and Mroz may be just as fast if not faster. Match that with their 3-5 returners running 4:20/9:31, 4:32/9:32, and 4:29/9:41. That's not even taking into account the potential of Alex Mimlitz or Matthew Plowman.

O'Fallon will have that top 2 on pretty much everyone else, but other teams have 4 and 5 runners returning with sub16 3 mile times, which O'Fallon doesn't. It's going to be a very close race for 2nd and 3rd in the state.

I could see York's top 5 all under 15:15

They have 6 guys who have run 15:17 or faster already. Don't get me wrong, anything can happen. The state meet in Peoria is truly special in that you will almost always be surprised by something.

Micah was 7th as a soph in 99 (the year york dropped 24 pts), then i believe was hurt the entire next next year during both track and xc (nobody from GBS ran state xc) and came back with a very limited schedule his senior year (believe it was just PND, conference, regionals, sectionals, state) and won all of those. That was my freshman year and getting to see him up close at the 3 latter meets as an impressionable young kid, he was truly a force to behold.

York could run away with it; or end up like Geneva in '08 - four all-staters and a 3rd place trophy. It reality, it will probably be somewhere in the middle.

We are just tossing out random predictions in June; and with all due respect to York, it is more fun to pick someone else.

The results from the 1971 state meet show a David Walters from Lincoln-Way finishing in 98th place, the sixth man on Lincoln-Way's 5th place team. The 1972 results don't show Walters or any finishers from Lincoln-Way. Dave Walters, of course, won the state meet as a senior in 1973, and remains one of only a handful of runners to run the Detweiller Park course in the State meet in under fourteen minutes.

I love how we're all now predicting O'Fallon to either win or come second as if it's a serious thing.

Doc Awesome, are you still calling O'Fallon or do you have another team in mind, now?
