NJSIAA Outdoor Track Committee Meeting

Meeting Minutes

Interesting points;

1. Event schedule to accommodate new relay events into Sectionals & Groups.

2. Proposal for revamping the Group Team Championships. (Thanks Paul Schwartz)

3. MOC back to Wednesday. 3:00 start

Overall, a pretty constructive session.

That's an interesting proposal, to say the least. The more I think about it, the more I agree with it, as long as it's not going to do unspeakable things like adding a slow heat to the 3200. And as much as I support adding more relays to groups, these are already long meets.

After arguing in favor of a revised qualification system, it's weird suddenly to see this (knowing that it's still being reviewed).

It was also decided that if the circumstances should arise that would require the meet to be suspended after starting a second time, the remaining events would be cancelled.
That seems wrong.

Thought of something that bothers me. What happens if athletes who were 7th-12th at sectionals medal at groups? Are they allowed to run MoCs? Advancement is ordinarily so unforgiving, this would favor athletes at better schools by letting them move on.

If they can move on, this could conceivably be gamed to keep athletes fresh if a team is dominant enough that it doesn't need its top one or two athletes to win multiple events at sectionals to get top two.

Yes

They would medal in top six at groups

and how do you propose that these kids can guarantee they finish in the top 12 at sectionals so they "can keep them selves fresh for groups"

Do you think any real good kid is going to compete, purposely hold back and risk not qualifying and count on his team being in the top 2 to save him?

In cross-country a kid can be seventh man on his team at sectionals and win groups -- this is the same principle.

I think you are over thinking things...no high school kid is going to hold back THAT MUCH that they would finish out of the medals if they are that good...kids want to win every meet they enter

Interesting point. The 2 previous posts seem to debunk that though.
Additionally, if you are a coach with Group title aspirations, are you going to roll dice on that possibility. I think not

How do these changes impact Indoor Track...is it staying as it was where the "superstar" possibility still remains or is this rule going to go into effect during the winter time

Can someone elaborate on this issue. It is something that jumped out at me when I was reading the minutes. I read it to mean that had the meet resumed on Friday and been called after the boys IH the remainder of MOC would be canceled? That doesn't seem right.
