He had the makings of a world class hurdler. Cant deny that. Faster than nearly everyone who has gotten medals in Olympics when they were in HS. 49.4 400mh as a Junior, 13.55 Hh too. Better than Angelo Taylor was in HS (50.1 in HS, but dropped to a 48.7 the next year).

Avante, really; not capable of going sub 49 and qualifying. Your reputation as a legitimate know it all is on the line here. He may not have world class speed, but he sure the hell as world class speed endurance.

If all he had done was concentrate on the 400h no telling what he might have accomplished, but he didn''t so we'll never know. I do know the football/track guy wasn't making our Olympic team. Last edited by Avante : 07-18-2012 at 03:15 PM. |

So since it isn't what happened, and you agree he had potential, how can you sit here and say that there was no way he makes the Olympic team? You are way underrating the development that he would go through if he were to have chosen to only focus on track

Off course not you pick the team.
If at 18 he could run college track, do spring FB and end up 11th at the trials hard to say what he could have done this year without spring FB.BTW I saw him run at AAU JO Games in 2007, by far the most impressve athlete in the YM division, won the 110's by 5m and the 400h by 20m.

Carter Suggs ran a slew of HS tying 9.3's then off to East Carolina, never to be heard from again. Bill Cowings was a great HS sprinter won Cal State then off to Texas Southen...poof!!!!!!! J-Mee Samuels broke Florences HS record then off to Arkansas, never did anything close to what his potential showed. James Jackson lead the nation (not just HS) in 1954 with his 9.4.....poof!!!!!! LaNoris Marshall beat both Don Quarrie and Steve Williams in the 60 as an Arizona HSer, never did much after that. Preston Griffen one of the natons top sprinters in 1957 as a HSer, 1958 he's gone for good. Tons and tons of guys were did this and that in HS who never lived up to the expectations. RGIII never faced a world class field, he never won the NCAA's, he never made an Olympic trials final. That's what he actually did. What he might of done we have no way of knowing. Personally I think if he wasn't a footballer he's one of our top hurdlers. Last edited by Avante : 07-18-2012 at 03:51 PM. |

This is still completely irrelevant to your assertion about what sports kids choose and the cost of it.

Great incite. Not sure where you're coming up with the 1-3k figures, jpac...little league here in IL is still about 100 bucks or less for the summer (uniform included). Even playing traveling stuff when I was 14,15,16 was about 600 for the entire summer. Obviously not free, but not going to break the bank for most families either. |
