Hello TrackTalk. I hope someone has seen this before.

Since June of 2011 I have had a bump on the front of my left shin a third of the way up the shin from the ankle. It is tender to touch at the beginning and after a run and tends to hurt to varying degrees during a run. I have seen two physical therapists, a chiropractor, and had two MRIs. The first, in November 2011 revealed stress reaction in the bone. The second, in January 2012, after a three weak break, was clean. Still, the pain persists, even after taking another 4 week break recently. Has anyone ever heard of a painful bump on the bone like this?

I hope someone has a suggestion about this, because nothing has worked for me so far. Not hip strengthening, not massage, not rest, not ice, not NSAIDS. Thanks!

Edit: bump of a previously failed injury thread

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news bro but it definetly sounds like a stress fracture. I have nothing but understanding and empathy for your situation believe me. But stress fractures can heal in 4-6 weeks from the outside but if you continue to agitate it, it'll never heal properly. Listen I heavily suggest that you stop all weight bearing activity for the next 6-8 weeks then gradually return to running. If that doesn't work then honestly I have no idea what it could be. But it is necessary to avoid any activity until it heals completely which for you wont be another 6-8 weeks. I know how it feels to be told to stop running. I've been struggling with compartment syndrome since January and the recovery has been a long and tricky one, but for a stress fracture you need to stop running period. Hope for the best and keep your head up. (NSAIDS, Hip strengthening, and ice wont help 0% because it is an issue with your bone. When I had a stress fracture i had periodic pain until 7-8 weeks into the recovery until it disapeared after 9 weeks)
