My thoughts so far this season
Just from the races I've seen from the Purdue Area. Vazquez of Frankfort hasn't run very fast yet. He should probably be dropped farther down. (Though I think he will run faster later). Morgan Welsh of McCutcheon has been running relatively quick times by himself so far so he may be a bit underated. Zane Cooperider of West Lafayette should probably be moved up as well. Homestead and Mishawaka have impressed early. We knew about Kodi Mullins for Homestead, but their depth was a surprise. Both should be fighting for two of the top 6 spots in the New Haven Semistate. Mishawaka should definitely factor into your next poll, if there is another one. Thanks for you hard work Profit Last edited by Knappyroots : 08-31-2010 at 07:08 PM. Reason: Proofreading |

It is better to wait a couple weeks from the start of the season for your next poll anyway, in my opinion. It is hard to get a good feel for where teams are until they have run a couple invitationals.

Opinions on Hamilton county? Garrett, Martin, Walden, Burgin, Roudabusch? Poor race by Millares but awesome race by Burgin. Surprised by Duvall's not-so-great performance. If only Noblesville had a 5...

Impressive effort from Garrett coming off a slower race for him Saturday at Rushville.
Extremely impressive run from Burgin. Easily the best surprise performance of the season so far, in my opinion. More or less what I would expect out of Martin and Walden (insofar as you can really expect anything from Walden, who seems to be somewhat up and down). Noblesville needs their 5th runner to get healthy. Good battle between HSE and Carmel. Interesting that HSE put 5 in front of Carmel's 4 since historically the 4-5 runners are often Carmel's strength. At this point I might put FC in front of Carmel and HSE. Those three (and Noblesville, if a 5th runner gets healthy or develops) seem to be the teams battling for #2 right now. I would have THN a bit behind those teams until I see more out of them. |

I agree with the team battle. This state preview meet should give us a good look as those 3, and THN all go head-to-head.
From what I've heard, Garrett did not exactly go 100% at Rushville, apparently just did what he could to go second, never pushed to get Tate. And remember that Hamilton County was Martin's first 5K for the whole season. A 15:43 for a first meet of the season is bananas. I still have no doubt that Walden will take out Garrett or Martin come October, but I believe this meet featured 3 runners that will place in the top 9 at Lavern Gibson. I look forward to seeing what happens once Noblesville gets a 5th. |

Yeah, some of the teams still haven't raced yet like THN and sometimes its not fair to those teams in rankings because it will skew it towards teams that haven't already raced since we know new freshmen or jv guys that have improved a lot. No doubt Burgin was a shocker, there was a race I believe last weekend where a kid from Kokomo hs ran a pretty good time as well that I haven't heard of at the Western Inv. http://onlineraceresults.com/race/vi...?race_id=15829 Both kids to me have improved A LOT.
As far as the Hamilton Co. meet Carmel was victorious but don't forget Wartenberg doesn't seem up to snuff yet and I didn't see the sub 10 3200m runner from Noblesville named Russ Goodwin in the results yet which would change things up too. These teams still have a lot of work to do to battle CN at all. The year is still young, Carmel will probably have at least one guy develop real well as the season goes on. It seems they usually do. I heard Tito downer has been experimenting with clay up there....the agonzier |
