I don't know if I could vote for one over the other. They both really are amazing and the fact that Molly is only a junior and Allie was in her first year of running cross country, makes their accomplishments even more impressive. It is too bad they never got to race each other, when both were healthy. Molly ran faster on the state course, but Allie had the post season success.

Agree, but in the end Allie took her season to the next level, unfortunately Molly didn't have the chance.

Looking back on the season, I just can't believe that in the same year we had two girls--neither in D1--under 14 minutes on the state course. Before the 2000 season, I thought Brooke Novak might be the one to break 14. At the time she was a 4:46-7 1600m runner. Didn't happen. Then I thought the late Alex DeVinney could've done it. Just not in the cards. By the mid-2000s I was confident about Claire Maduza. I used to sell her running shoes. Guess what? Didn't work out for her either! Then Ashley Beutler... Nope. Plainly, Molly and Allie are very special athletes which is what makes this choice so hard. Two questions boggle my mind:

very tough decision.
-sidel has just dominated wisconsin CC the past 3 years and likely will next year(no injuries please) -woodward on the other hand had an amazing FIRST season of CC winning d2 state by a lot as seidel did, and of course moving onto NXN and FL by winning both regionals! -a head to head math up between these two would be incredible(if they were both healthy) lets not forget siedel ran 17:10.2 at border wars(parkside) and at the FL region woodward ran 17:18(parkside) i think if siedel had rested the week of border wars her knee would have been fine and she and woodward wouldve been shoulder to shoulder the whole time, can't wait to hear and watch both of their successes next year! Molly ran 17:10 at Border Wars all alone. Although I don't think she would have won Footlocker, I think it's safe to say she would have been 2nd had she been healthy. She still almost qualified on a bad knee. But I'd say it's pretty even overall just because of what Allie did at NXN and Footlocker.

....... really hard to say, they each have shown different amazing qualities that can't really be compared to each other. Yeah. Siedel was amazing, especially at state, but then she got injured. Then Woodward managed to run amazingly at footlocker and NXN with no experience (and state obviously).

This part still hasn't fully processed for me yet. I just think about all the stories I've heard about coaches bending over backwards trying to convince an athlete out for soccer (or in this case tennis) to come out for track or cross country. Now they can point to Allie's story.

Most of the season Molly seemed to be the clear favorite, but the best runner runs thier best when it really counts. At state they were almost identical!
Allie's top performances at large meets were: Roy Griak, state, NXN regionals and nationals, and Footlocker Regionals and Nationals. Mollly's top performances were: State and Border Wars. Regardless of PR's the nod goes to Allie, even though it would have been a much more interesting decision had Molly been healthy! Next year if Molly runs injury free she will be the clear favorite! |
