Default Wow!

Sleeping in a hat - who ever heard of such?! Thought that was only in the fairy tales and Charles Dickens novels!

We use hats to keep the sun off! In the winter, we use them to keep the rain out of our hair and off the glasses!

Default When are your

leaves in peak up there? Ours are still green with only a hint of a few yellow early turners. Just saw the first yellow migrating butterflies this week and the temps are getting pleasant now.

I do suspect Raven's surviving Cecropias are now safely cocooned for the winter, my last cat came down the treetrunk looking for a low twig to do that on this past weekend.

Now she can consider phase two of the native american silkmoth replenishment project, which involves going to war against the evil government-sponsored alien parasite that likely is living inside of and consuming many of those offspring, possibly even a majority of them depending on the European Tachinid fly prevalence in CT, which I suspect isn't low since that's where the gypsy moth first took root on this continent.

A little bit here on the enemy, it's a summary from out this way but mentions in the last section your local population decline: http://www.vegedge.umn.edu/vegpest/b...ials/Comps.htm

The Cecropia is a favorite of this species to get through the winter on; a large late-summer caterpillar might find itself the unwilling host to a dozen or more concinnata maggots while a smaller insect only carries one or two for the fatal ride. More on what can be done, if interested, to identify the infested individuals and ensure no alien fly ever emerges to see the light of a CT day in a later post.

There's brown leaves..and faded yellows. My huge Maple tree is yellowish dull green. Haven't been on the River lately, hope to go soon. The rain has raised the level for a decent ride.
Knee is getting better each day - thanks for asking! About 3 more months until normal - although "normal" is a relative word in my case and some say I will never approach it and if I do it will be for the first time!

The temps here today are fall-like (mid 70s). We ate lunch on the porch watching the birds and occasional yellow butterfly heading south. It is going to be cool tonight dipping into the 50s, but will be warming back up tomorrow. Just a fall tease!

On our bucket list is a trip to New England to see your fall colors. I always thought it would be best in early October, but could be seriously off by a week or two. That's why I asked the experts!

Now that kids are grown and I have retired from XC & track (officiating and directing meets), we can actually travel in the fall for the first time in 20 years! Alaska is next year; hopefully, New England the following one!

Though the Golden colors of Fall in Colorado are spectacular. Hubby and I lived in Colorado Springs for tad..and yellow is now a favorite color.

We have a few butterflies left...Monarchs..and they are moving slowly..I don't know whether they are making the trip South or are just about to pass.

Hummingbirds are gone...have a few finches left going after the sunflower seeds.
for the leaf update! The monarchs are on their way through here to winter in Mexico. Hummingbirds are stopping over for 2-3 days before moving on south too. Lots of finches on the feeder - especially gold and purple.

Default woohoo!

Way to go Tom!

King of the Distance Winner Tom Hyland
LetsRun.com's first priority is the distance races and the King of the Distance winner was Tom Hyland of New York City. A lifelong fan of the sport (and an official), his first meet was the Millrose Games in 1957 or 1958. (For those of you reading this in the future, the Millrose Games was the biggest indoor track meet in the World, held at Madison Square Garden).
Being hard core, Tom wants us to have all the events for our London 2012 contest.

Well, the Sox lost again and are now tied with the Rays

I think they can pull it off though, it's always good to face a bit of adversity every once in a while. I hope they get hot and take it all the way to the World Series!

Hey, no worries, Patti. The Nationals, not the O's, are now my team. And they've won -- are you ready? -- 13 of their last 16 games! Sure, they have a long way to go. They were happy just for a third-place finish this year. Still, they finally seem to be pointed in the right direction.
