What a week-end..... Yesterday went to Jason Kehoe’s memorial.... from “the group” (BR’S store running community) to pass. It was good to see everybody....people came from all over..California, Texas....TvToni, Bobbi Gibbs... and Hodgie-san! (hiya hodgie) to name a few. Jason knew quite a few people from all walks of life and had made a lasting impression on many of us. Now, I met Jason in 1976 my very first road race...held at the Quincy Y...and he wouldn’t let me pass...I eventually did pass him...and a friendship began...though I wouldn’t see him until about two years later at BR’s store when I started working there in Cleveland Circle...he would sneak me M&M’s and an occasional slice of pizza, when my coach wasn’t looking..hehe! Here’s TvToni’s blog link http://tonireavis.com/2012/06/05/hate-runs/ And now I'm going for a run...hhhHhhoooraaayyyyYYY!! Last edited by patti : 08-22-2012 at 11:40 AM. |

Last weekend, I attended a coaching seminar with amongst others, Coach Joe Vigil. One story he related involved Dan Dillon and Alberto Salazar - he told us that at World Cross one year, I thought he said '81 or '82, but if his telling was right, it must've been '83 or maybe one of the next few years, and he said that Salazar had become ill, and that Dan said he'd beat up Salazar if that was the difference in winning. Well, the US took 2nd to Ethiopia, and...(don't really recall exactly what he said happened). Also reading Geoff Hollister's Out of Nowhere, and both keep appearing.

I'm baaaack. I rolled over to here as I just saw the Bill Rodgers Running Center will close at the end of the month.
Sniff. I lived in Boston in the early 80s. I always stopped in when in town for the Marathon or something. Loved that place. I had hoped the tourist trade would keep it going. |

Thanks for cleaning up the thread Zen!
Spider, from what I understand the store has been -><- this close to collapse for a long while.

Sorry to hear it was this close for a while. I always thought it should be kept as a civic landmark, though I am sure folks like me wandering in every 2-3 years does not quite a business plan make. But I remember wandering in there when I was 19 or so and feeling like they'd let me hang out with Joe Dimaggio.
Hope Bill and Charlie are well. You too WT. --Spidey |

Glad to hear you have survived the Sandy experience. Sorry about John Wayne, but with a new puppy the circle of life continues.

Thanks Leftfielder....so hard...can't replace him...but found a pup on craigslist and could not pass it up...so perhaps a tad earlier than we had planned...but the puppy is so cute..(and has sharp teeth)...big paws...thick bone..square head......he already plays ball..knows sit, come...and working on give paw...and walks an hour a day...so far...at first he slept for the whole day and the next..now he's ready frio another walk by afternoon.
So how are you? How did everybody make it through the storm? We have electric, though not all of our street has it... We're at the library again to pick up dvd's...Let's see..Inception...Midnight in Paris..and some other repeats..( I happen to fall asleep during most movies...) Oh and I'm no running..funny I sort of fell out of the routine..hope to get back into it. Too bad about BR's store...was going to go this week...but storm...sonny is still holding strong...though this semster is tough...3 labs...He's being taxed...a tad...but holding...He's very competitive.hmmm. Afterm all of my natural remedies for the grass...most is dead now...Oh, am i upset about it...it's going to take hundreds to replace...though I could claim naturlizing..meadows...lol!!! Glad you made it through the storm OK! So very sorry for the loss of your lab. We lost ours last year and our mutt a few months ago - they both lived long lives, but it is never easy to lose a family member. We just ordered a new pup today from a litter born yesterday. Our German Shorthaired Pointer will be coming home in 6 weeks - just in time for Christmas!

Glad you made it through the storm Patti! Aaron is going to WV to do petroleum engineering? Hmmmm, I can see who I'll be borrowing money from in the future. Meanwhile we are doing homework with our James out here, and doing college aps. He wants to do East Asian languages.
Did I read write that BR gets a puppy? The store closes but God opens a window. Something like that, I've been working too hard. Raining hard here in Seattle, but I can't complain. Not doing Boston in 2013 but planning on the big trip in 2014 if we can rangle it. I'll need to get off my butt and go get a qualifier, but 2014 is my first year a s 50 year old. Perhaps we can see you all again. Give our best to BR. He has always been a hero for us. Yr fan, Spidey |

Patti,
Good to see you back. Sorry to hear about John Wayne...always liked him (for obvious reasons) and just generally like dogs. Very sad about Bill's store...I guess the loss of Jason was really what pushed it over the edge. Am lucky, survived Sandy with power! No issues here. Parents and sisters are w/o power. Good to hear Aaron is doing well...and they got home safely. Hi to all. Wayne
