Got caught up watching tennis this morning. Really exciting, but it meant I didn't go run until 9:00. Got a little warm, but thankfully the weather has been good. We're usually well over 100 by now. Alexey kept me company on the bike while I got in 6 1/2 miles.

Good work WiT -- although most of the folks I see in neck collars are not quite as young and, ahem, healthy as the young ladies in that pic.

Heckuva tennis match. I think the fifth set was longer than any other match in history.

Patti "sounds" better, but this will take a bit to mend. Hang in there.

Ruth -- it's been pretty warm up here too. I think it almost hit 58 this morning. So hot I almost didn't take my gloves this morning. We're calling it the Great Seattle Heat Wave of 2010.

What's this thread about? Gosh.

It may be that if you have to ask, you can't know.

But this began with a monster thread on LetsRun about Boston 1979. Patti posted over there, and someone realized it was Patti. And this led to something of an outpouring of affection, as we all remembered Patti and Dan, but they had been off having a real life for 15 years or so rather than supplying anecdote and entertainment for rif-raff 24-minute 5k runners like us -- an unsustainable injustice rectified by the miracle of the internet.

Later, this was broadened to include living legend Ruth, who should know better but somehow is willing to spend time on a board populated by folks she could easily lap in an 800.

Ultimately, though, I think this thread is about celebrating the discovery that WiT and Patti are really siblings separated at birth. But Patti got the much better legs.

Anyone else remember what this thread was supposed to be about? I do have a note from my doctor saying it counts as therapy.

I think patti once said it was like going on a training run with a bunch of friends you chat about whatever.

Patti,
Good to see you back...not that having Raven was bad, it was just different. Anyway, glad to see you guys continue making progress. I took a final last night - think I did OK, but had missed some homework, so unsure about my grade. (The prof won't accept late HW).
Be careful out there...I'm wondering if your door needs another spring or a spring adjustment - they shouldn't tend to be too tough to handle.
Meantime, if you recall, we'd had a big get-together at the Kelley Race several years back. Will you guys be going down for it? Does the "invite" stand? Kelley is Aug 7 this year.
Do you think we can get WiT to run? I'm not in shape, but will be doing another 5k, again slowly, at Utica in 2+ weeks. Matthew will also be running. As I think you know, Dickie and Miki are being inducted this year. I'd ask if you were coming up, but am pretty sure that's too big a time block.
Keep recovering!
Wayne

Raven,
This link will connect you to a Facebook video from the '70's - the ShaNaNa Show. It's Danny and the Juniors singing Rock and Roll is Here to Stay...but the set-up is priceless AND pertinent to most of us.

Patti, sorry to hear about your injury and good to hear you're alive and typing.

go under the knife Monday to repair a destroyed ankle. After 3 months and 31 pounds lost, I now can't run for 3-4 months. Ugh.

Broke the ankle 4 years ago and bone chips from that hav created a very serious cyst between bones that needs repairing. Oh well.

I'm gonna suggest you stay away from garage doors and I stay away from root littered, leaf covered trails from now on!

Edit: or demand medical marijuana for alcoholism.

Hate to admit it, but watching the women's 5000, my first thought was that Jen Rhines needs to work on her tan. So does Jenny Barringer.
