... and wineturtle joins the cast of the LL wounded.
Broke my ring toe on my left foot during a dream... yup in a dream .I don`t remember what lead up to it in the dream but a robber was fleeing a store with John Law close behind. Good citizen WiT (with his powerful and razor sharp sprinters reflexes) sticks out his foot to trip him up. In real life Tom kicks the footboard hard enough to kick a field goal from the other side of the 50 yard line and wakes from the dream. I`m n t sure if it was the pain or my scream that woke me .5 hours later my toe had a wonderful multicolored hue to it-gray to green and every shade between. A nice pink and reddish purple ring is forming around the outside border. Not as drama filled as Patti`s fingers, Ruths clavical or Jags multiple problems I know. After hobbling around the house for 8 hours embracing the pain I am giving in and take a half tab of Hydrocodone 7.5/APAP 750. Yeah I know all you tough marathoners have tales of running the last 20 miles with compound fractures of both legs, blood pouring out of scalp wounds and such... But I`m just a wimpy sprinter and I`m grabbing for the serious drugs in spite of your jeers.

Great match-up coming, eh? I have no hatred for the Phillies -- this is nocal after all, and I used to live in Doylestown, back when Schmidt played -- but they've won recently.

One time, in an ultra, I had run my shoes to disintegration, then started working on my feet. They wore off, and I finished that time on bloody stumps. The doc said I'd have "bled out" if I'd run another 3 miles or so. WiT, I feel your pain...but you can have it...feel better!

Sorry you're suffering, WiT. Sounds like my kind of injury, though.
Seeing the doctor Wednesday morning. "The fall" was 6 weeks ago, so getting checked out. Going to ask him about running. Sure am tired of the stationary bike! |

Get well soon WiT. But it is true, this does not quite rate too high on the marathoners list of injuries.
Out here, in fact, most of us break all our toes and both feet at the start line before a major race. We use the buddy system -- I sledgehammer yours, you sledgehammer mine. Then we deflate one of our lungs. With a rusty knife. Then we run the race. Barefoot. Through a mine field. But do get well soon anyway. And ditto you too Ruth. |

Wayne, I think I saw you in that ultra. You were wearing trainers at the start, a pink boa and limegreen shorts right? Patti stopping to beat up a horse during Boston one year shows us it`s not only northwesteners who are as tough as Spidey and the MM gang .

Looks like I'm back on the road. The doc says I can start running. I also love the prescription he wrote out for me that says, "No housework of any type for 3 months." Told me to give that to Tom. One month before I see him again and then we start some strength work to work on the weaker left side. I've got to admit, I'm a bit apprehensive about running. I definitely don't want to fall down again, and I've been known to do that far too often. Guaranteed I'll never run in the Lunarglides I had on that fateful day 6 weeks ago. Got a brand new pair of Brooks Ghost's in the box ready to go!

Ruth, welcome back to running...I think this is a "get right back on the horse" thing...and if FB is right, Tom has you painting the house...I don't think the scrip'll do you any good.
WiT, you said, "Wayne, I think I saw you in that ultra. You were wearing trainers at the start, a pink boa and limegreen shorts right?" You're so full of it...that would've been a fashion crime. I was wearing the pink & black zebra striped tights, a royal blue lycra shirt, and flourescent orange shoes. I had an absolutely FABULOUS time (though my race time was lousy). Wayne
