That may be true but IL state meet winning time would have finished 18th in CA state meet for the 3200. That's a bit too far down to suggest that the difference is explained by only a 3 fold difference in population.

It's not really a math problem.
A lot of guys in Illinois doubled so the races were super tactical. |

That's the problem in Kansas, a lot of guys go for triples, and we run 6 classifications when in reality we need like 2 to be competitive.

The IL state 3200 is also run in the middle of the day, while CA's was at 9 or 10 at night

Let's also remember that a good portion of California has better weather for most of the year.
