not so sure that I agree with you. Washington and Texas is really the only state that doesn't contest the 4x8 enough to matter. I don't think Texas is as strong distance wise as IL anyway.

54 teams under 8:00. IL is by far the deepest of any state.

beattie pretty much nailed it on the head, IL not only runs the 4x8, but runs it first every meet, thus negating any effect of athletes doubling back. Not saying we are not good distance wise, but that is probably over-stating it a bit.

i always held IL/TX as the 2/3 behind california on a year in/year out basis. There are some years where other states have a great year (washington this year), but on a consistent basis are probably a bit behind.

it's hard to compete with states that can train outdoors all year, and don't focus on an indoor season at all

that implies IL focuses on the indoor season. Look at the east coast (northeast in particular) and realize how little we care about indoor.

i know it sounded like that. my "at all" was intended to qualify it A LOT. my buddies from the durty jerz tell me all about how crazy their indoor season is. but we do put emphasis on it with meets like iptt and proviso and whatnot

That must have been a painful last 9 meters.

That was my first thought. At least he got a 1600 PR out of it. I also found it interesting that Derrick put a second between him and Schrobilgen in the last 9 meters.

My two overall thoughts, and Leftfielder alluded to one of them in another thread.
1) Clevenger is the best runner in IL this year
2) Keelan is my favorite next year for a triple crown (XC, 1600, 3200)

If BN is AAA track again next year, he'll have his hands full in track with the BN and O'Fallen runners. It will be real hard to get the 16 and 32 next year.

I guess if you have to pick someone, he's the best bet. Maybe the only bet with 2nd best returning 1600/3200 times (I think) coming from an AA XC school.

I agree that Yunk in the 3200 and Lee, Perrier, and Riba in the 1600 are very formidable challenges, along with Riba and Perrier in XC. But Keelan literally didn't have a bad race this year, and looked just ridiculous these past few weeks. To return with 4:09/8:55, I seriously don't see how anybody could touch him. This is going out on a limb, but I could see him approaching 14:00 in XC this year
