I didn't look at a single result or the point total until getting to the hotel. I will never keep a running score tally at state either. I did enjoy the day, though, probably one of my favorite days there in recent years.

Do you sit with your back to the scoreboard? How do you avoid seeing a result all day?

Dowling's distance kids continued their run from Drake with Gibbons (the XC champ) well back in the 3000 while Schweizer took 3rd. The Dowling 4x8 failed to score.
Agree. I thought Waukee girls looked very focused in the 4X8 and ran a smart race. Sabotin lead off their 4X8 which allowed Waukee to get a lead on Valley that Saggau could not eclipse. I was also impressed with Waukee's high jumpers. Dowling is looking very tough, as most of you predcited. I still think Urbandale is a contender as well. Also think the boys races have been very exciting - Nuerhing from Waukee was able to anchor their 4x8 to a victory in a very close race.

Well, we all get something wrong, didn't we? Runfan and I didn't think Waukee had enough to be in it for the win and that clearly seems mistaken. Very few others thought Dowling did, and it looks like it's going to be those two. Several of us thought City would contend and at best they're fighting to try for 3rd. Saggau is not going to get 40 points, though 38 is still possible which is not too shabby and Waukee's hurdlers are not going to bring in 25 pts.

So, at the risk of incurring 9thlane and 4A-runfan's derision, anyone want to venure a guess about what tomorrow might hold? Who would have thought Dowling might win a state title thanks to their sprinters with minimal help from their distance kids? Waukee is having a great meet. Delightfully still up in the air.

Up in the air is a great description. Looks like Dowling and Waukee will be fighting it out tomorrow. Should be a great meet with Dowling and Waukee both qualifying in all relay's. Dowling has more scoring events with finalists in the 100 and 200, Waukee has a finalist in the 100H while Dowling does not. Whichever team wins the head to head matchups in the relay's will likely win the meet and it could come down to the 4X400 for the title.

In projecting points for tomorrow, I would argue it is a lock for Waukee.

Waukee should score almost 40 points tomorrow while Dowling will score at most 35. With Waukee's current 7.5 point lead, Dowling's deficit seems insurmountable. Barring Waukee under-performing (which they have not yet done at State) I would wager Waukee takes home it's second title in 4 years.

Saggau's looking at 36 points (4x8 was 3rd). I agree that she is odds-on favorite tomorrow for 800 and their 4x4 looked solid. She didn't even shift gears to finish the race saving some for finals.

I'm pretty sure my original prediction's will be pretty spot-on.
1st - Waukee
2nd - Dowling
Valley - not in top 3 (they'll probably be 4th)
and Urbandale-maybe 5th but likely 6/7

I didn't come out and say City High 3rd, but it seems it could be, but maybe Valley gets it. I missed on the Waukee hurdlers, but their HJ picked up the slack.

And no to the private message, I'm not from Waukee, why would I be staying in a hotel? I've previously identified my affiliation during indoor season.

They certainly are in the driver's seat, but you never know. Last year West looked to be set up to pass City for the win with a lot more potential points and City pulled it out. City's first title came in a year when it looked like Indianola was going to win and the anchor of one of their relays tripped near the line and got passed by several runners costing them the title. Wasn't the year Waukee won their title much closer than it should have been because their star hurdler fell?

You're right about that - anything can happen. I guess that is what makes each race exciting.

Default Girls 4A Final

Exciting day Saturday. Waukee wins and CIML teams take the top 4 spots at the State Meet. This meet was over after the 4X100 Shuttle Hurdle Relay. WDM Valley DQ and Urbandale hit a hurdle and scored 2 points. The Shuttle relay was the only misque for Urbandale who scored 59 points Saturday dominating the sprints and a very fast time in the wind winning the 4X100. Waukee did what they had to do and executed better ending up with the win.

Dowling started slow (no points in the sprint medley or 800M) and an injury prevented Grace Gibbons from competing in the 1500M. Strange as it sounds, Dowling was carried by it's sprinters this meet and finished second with an unexpected total of 14 points in the (3000M, 1500M and 800M) distance events.

ICH and ICW under performed this year and these teams have been dominant the past 15 or so years. Looking at the under classmen on the top teams, Waukee, Dowling and Urbandale return most of their team members next year with very little contribution (point wise) from it's Seniors. Look for the CIML to compete for the titles again next year.

1) Waukee 82
2) Dowling C, WDM 69.50
3) Urbandale 66
4) Valley, WDM 58
5) Bettendorf 44
6) DSM, Roosevelt 40
6) IC, City High 40
8) IC, West 37
9) Cedar Falls 34
10) DVPT, Central 33
