As for new phenoms, I'm surprised this name isn't already programmed. Stephanie Jenks of Linn-Mar who will be a freshman. She was 2nd at Nike Heartland Regionals last year, 11 seconds ahead of 8th place Topham. She was also 23 seconds ahead of Schweizer and 37 seconds ahead of Gregg.

So will Lin-Mar be a 4-A team contender next fall? Both boys and girls squads have been good the last couple years.

Aside from the fact that they've never done it before, and Dowling has such a rich history the last 7-8 years, I think on paper Lin-Mar girls might be the favorites. Father Kirby knows what he's doing though and they've got some very deep talent. Dowling doesn't seem to have the breakout kid like Jenks may prove to be, which is no knock on their top girls.

I had to do a double-take upon reading this. You meant semi-finals. In the semis she placed 15th with a 2:05.58 to miss the finals. Probably used it all up in order to advance this far.

Hawkeye Eric Sowinski appeared to have suffered the same fate. Ran 1:47.3 in the prelims for 7th fastest qualifier. Then, the next day, ran 1:50.83 to finish 16th in the semis.

Yeah, I did miss the semis when I looked on the schedule. Still a nice performance. Making an Oly team is crazy hard. Even being a part of the mix is a great accomplishment.

It's been a very long season for the collegiate runners who have been competing since January indoors. They all focused on peaking for the NCAA outdoor championships which has left them with tired legs at the trials. It's an honor competing at the trials and congrats to them all. I beleive we will see the same results from the collegiate runners in the 1500M as well.

Natosha Rogers in the 10k, then, must have used some Hayward Field magic. The 1500m will be especially tough. Even at the top of their game/with the freshest legs, the collegians are still 20m back. I expect to see some make the final by racing the prelim as though it were a final. They too will stand out in the finals.
